Re: Ditch the double camber
The Outtas I think are a camber and a half. I use them a lot but mine are so old maybe they've lost some of that camber lol. On the double camber I have to verbally tell myself "Up" and "Down" to keep turning them, I pretty much avoid using them now. A thought though, I play a lot of tennis and one ...

Re: Problems turning Fischer S‑Bound skis, remount bindings?
I may be alone in this opinion, but I think one of the worst places to evaluate or get used to a backcountry ski is the backcountry. At least where I ski when I'm in the BC I'm always dealing with some sort of environmental challenge; trees, roots, rocks, whatever. I'm almost never making pure carve...

The quick commute skis are a lot like surfing. The Wounded Warrior surfing guys say "Surfing Heals All Wounds" and so does skiing a few lines. Last week I lost my Mom to pancreatic cancer, it sucked as you can imagine and I spent the epic snow event we had between the edge of her bed and the hospice...

Re: Trimming brush on public land
I do similar to connyro if I do anything at all. I'm on our local con-comm and all of us on the comm are trail users with protectionist tendencies. In general if you're clearing deadfall, we're cool with that. If you're maybe pruning off a few eye-pokers very judiciously, we're cool with that too. I...

Re: Hunting ines
I don't know how you're skiing but with wax or scales there are many more options since short lines make more sense if you don't have to put skins on. I can spend hours on a small hill with less than 100 ft. of drop if the snow is good. It's all about good snow to me. I skied the last 5 days and my...

Re: Hunting ines
Atomic used to have those ads where the path of a raindrop, or other everyday items look like ski lines and it said "We see it too". Like minds Al! I'v found a lot of the ones like you describe right off the highway as I commute. I love watching all the traffic head north to "Ski Country" as I make ...

So much talk about this gear and that gear, I thought it might be fun to discuss finding place to actually use it! We live all over the place and probably all types of terrain, and we probably all have different ways of finding new lines. Here's a scenario I had this weekend; I was at the top of a l...

Re: Newby technique question
Not sure it's "standard practice" but it's definitely common. I ski with a guy who uses tele gear and in several years I've never seen him make a tele turn. I'm the opposite. We only ski glades when we are together, very tight glades. He skis with Hammerheads and skis a lot faster than me. I ski on ...

Re: Farmer's Backyard
Good imitation of a mid level intermediate alpine skier. I ski the Outtabounds, which I think is similar, and it's capable of skiing a lot tighter stuff than that although it is not a hardpack ski. Out east today was marked with deep heavy snow in the trees, so I switched from Outta to my vintage X-...

Re: Rottefella Xcelerator 2.0 Binding Review
I like the concept. Back many decades ago I was alpine racing when the ESS VAR came out with the fore/aft adjustment. I got some on a pair of stiff, straight (pre-shaped skis) Atomic SL skis - the adjustment really did make a big difference even though the range seemed small. I used the same skis fo...
