Confessions of a Frustrated Boot Buyer
Chapter 1573... a beginner's view. The Excursion and T4 are often mentioned in same sentence as though they are similar. They aren't. The Excursion is "modeless" (it has no "ski" mode), much softer fore/aft, feels like a bedroom slipper compared to the T4. In ski mode, the T4 feels like a miniature ...

Re: Altai Skis Hok Review
After discovering that my $3 silicone skin treatment only lasts an hour or so, I decided to try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrvB8pcrY7o Altai says "Do not hot wax the skin". What could go wrong?! Anyway, I hot waxed the skin as in the video and I not only lived to tell about it, my skis go...

Re: K&G with G3 Targa... feasible? Binding location?
More info: the problem occurred during an attempt to break trail in 18" of freshly fallen powder, blizzard still in progress (hey, I was bored). So I swapped out for the Hoks, and they did fine in those challenging conditions. Just now, I gave another try: the snow has been on the ground 3 days and ...

K&G with G3 Targa... feasible? Binding location?
I picked up a set of 2009 BD Havocs mounted with G3 targas on Craigs List. "pins" on the balance point. These skis seem like they'll be fun on piste, and I plan to use them for lift served skill building (as soon as I work out an unrelated issue with boots). I'd also like to use them for BC touring ...

Re: Altai Skis Hok Review
A little more experience with the Hoks now in varying conditions... I am having a blast with them. They are fun in the same way that my fat bike is fun. They tackle terrain that's just hard with higher performance gear and they get you places that you otherwise would not go. I love the forward bindi...

Re: Alico Ski March Boot
I've been out a few times on my second round of Ski March boots. So far, so good. This second par came from a different source, 2009 vintage, and not as well kept. More "new, very old stock" than new. So after a thorough soaking with Lexol, then rubbing in a bunch of Obenauf's (similar to sno-seal),...

Re: Alico Ski March Boot
After reading these reviews, how could I *not* buy a $65 raffle ticket? Unfortunately... the darned things don't fit. UK size 11 wide. They fit like a roomy US 12. PM me if interested (I'm in NH). Quality is so good (right up there with Crispi Antarctic imo, although this is a much beefier boot), I'...

Re: Altai Skis Hok Review
I'm a little frustrated with my 145s. Need a clue or two. I've waxed the skis and skin with a rub on wax (Zum). In 6" of fresh snow over ice and frozen ground, they seemed to go okay. About as expected. Current conditions are about 8" of settled powder over crust (breakable) over 6" of refrozen corn...
