skiing is good for your mental health

Post by STG » Sat Jun 30, 2018 5:51 pm

Last November, my husband and I moved (development refugees) from an urban area in SW Montana (30 years) to a rural town in SW Montana. OMG: culture shock/moving shock. I drove the distance to YNP and skied a number of great powder day! And, I also found some good skiing in the mountains in area where I currently live. Skiing has kept me centered and sane during this transition to the new planet. Any similar experiences?

Skiing is the only time anything makes perfect, whole, real sense and also I feel like I can completely express myself, even if the people I'm skiing with don't necessarily see this expression. It's in the feeeeeel. Especially today when it's hot. I don't do hot.

So yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Good luck with your summer in your new digs!

Cruising out into the gonz is religious....It's the whole Temple and knee thing with Nature being the guide....New places and new opportunities are a form of expression....one we all like....This year a small mountain range called the Black Hills is going to be high on my list....Bear caves...major cliffs...Long hardwood ridges....Will see...TM

Woodserson:

Thanks for posting. Skiing really is the only thing that makes perfect sense. When you are doing that turn your mind is accutely in the moment and all other wordly static is shut out. That's why skiing is so good for our minds and souls.

Eloquent comment that really defines the novelty and adventure of skiing. Your words or were you quoting TM's?

Yes it is. And it's not the only gateway drug to outdoor happiness.

30 years in SW Montana sounds a lot like Bozeman. You may be familiar with "The Mad Mile" on the Gallatin River. I think the summer version of "The Turn", that feeling you get when you drop a knee to change direction, is best approximated by cutting back into a wave, surfing (can't do that in Montana) and the G's generated when you eddy out on a river white water kayaking (which you CAN do in Montana).

If you haven't tried it, the next time you're sitting around thinking about skiing, in July, and there's no snow....well, there IS snow, it's just roaring down past the Gallatin Towers!

I feel very blessed to have skiing in the winter and paddling for the rest of the year to be passionate about. I don't know how I would feel satisfied with life without them.

My wife's new V6 BCs just arrived yesterday, I'm really hoping they improve her disposition. ;)

As a counselor, I would like to add that any sport is good for mental health. Sports and a healthy diet is what keeps well! Sports is the best way to free up your mind and to organize your thoughts. In addition to this, sports is a good way to focus on goals and to start working on achievements. Indeed, we should not forget that our body is super complex and that there are such things as hormones. For that is advisable to get vitamins and supplements. If you want to know more about vitamins feel free to google it or to visit this page https://www.nhc.com/brand/kyolic Stay healthy!
