Best waterproofing for Ski-March and similar black boots?

I like this stuff (Svart means black in Norse), I think you can get it anywhere, Nikwax is a big outfit.
This is nice goo- good wax and it restores the color to new.

Before I ever had leather ski boots (which I just got a few weeks ago) I used mink oil on cowboy and hiking boots. Probably not quite as good for waterproofing as those mentioned, or sno seal, but worked well enough in my experience and also conditioned the leather nicely. And since I already have quite a bit and don't ride horses anymore (maybe again someday) that's what I am using on my Alpina 1600s.

Thanks. Will use liberally on toe crease area and very little to none in other spots for fear of softening too much. Never had any issues with my hiking boots feeling flimsy but admittedly I didn't use all that much mink oil, and I used more in the toebox with those as well.

I think it is probably a good idea to put oil on the toe crease (and not elsewhere) . Like the oild in the palm of your baseball mitt.

I have a lifetime supply of Biwell, the red tube original Biwell, and it works great, waterproofs and doesn't soften leather. Perfect on leather tele boots, leather gloves, etc.
If I run across that black Nikwax I'd try some, but the US distributor apparently doesn't sell it here...at least I can't seem to locate any...if it's like the other Nikwax aqueous waxes, it should work quite nicely.

And as everyone else has mentioned, it's not good to use mink oil on leather tele boots, as the oil will break down the structure of the leather, losing the support needed for turning and touring.

As mentioned in other threads, the oil can / will soak through the leather and down to the waterproof membrane. The oils will then block the pores of the membrane, which will then stop the ability of the membrane to pass water vapor from perspiration OUT of the boot (the 1600 does have a waterproof membrane).
That’s one of the reasons to not use oils on waterproof ski boots.
Softening is another.

I am surprised it is not there they have it in GB. I also like Granger's bee's waxes and I use them on my mitten palms and some boots. When I was a kid I used Sno-Seal on my Vasque hiking boots (Norwegian welt) but I think it softens too.
