Just bought leather asolo snowfields. Ski and binding rec?

I just found a pair of size 13, asolo snowfield leather boots on craigslist and they fit great. My experience with telemarketing has been 15 years of t1s and downhill skis on lift service and skinning. I wanted something lighter that I could take out locally as I live in Northern Mass and have some really nice cross country trails with some nice hills as well as spending a a decent amount of the winter visiting Vermont. I just read the thread about the guy in Maine and I'm not looking at a t4 but I'm wondering what people would recommend as a ski that I could turn with a leather boot and most common use of this setup would be breaking new trail or going on an ungroomed cross-country trail and trying to find some nice hills to the ski down as well. There are also a few pretty steep hills and hikes around me and have thought about testing these out in those settings as well. I have a traditional nnn xc setup so this would be more for exploring and finding some downhills while getting some exercise.

My uninformed thoughts would be something like a Fischer s 98 with a voile cable 3 pin. Would love to find something used but not having any luck with what I'm searching for. Open to any suggestions. I'm 6'5 220

Just out of curiosity these leather boots fit perfectly into switchback X2 on a downhill ski and any feedback on whether I would break my legs trying these on a kid slope as I'm teaching my kids to ski right now? Seems like a nice challenge but don't want another injury.

The switchback doesn't work well with soft boots. Soft boots can twist and pop out of the hardwire cables/heel throw. Boots with stiffer soles can handle it better.

Excellent boots!.....Go Nordic as thin as you can.....For you at least a 205....and a 210 would be better.....Fischer E99 or 109 will do any kind of deed you want with TONS OF PRACTICE......Best arc i can get......double camber skinny in powder is the ultimate deed The FEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLL tells the story.....Keep on arcing.....TM

At 190 lbs I didn’t like the kick and glide of an S-112. I can’t imagine you will like kick and glide of an S-98 at 220 lbs.
I strongly recommend the Rottefella Super Telemark with cable for leather boots. I really like Voile, I own both 3-pin cable and 3-pin Hardwire bindings. The Rottefella Super Telemark is much better for leather boots. The clamp fits the duckbill better. The cable which is a hardwire provides a laterally rigid connection to the clamp. This laterally rigid connection makes a huge difference with softer leather boots. I use my Alaska 75 far more now in the Rotte ST than I ever used them in a Voile 3-pin cable. My skiing needs to be more downhill oriented, and my distance to those downhills needs to be shorter, and the snow needs to be more difficult for me to break out my heavier, stiffer, Alico Ski March boots now that I ski on Rotte ST

Thanks for the info. I take it if I buy something used that's for a smaller boot I'm going to not only adjust the heel plate but also recenter the binding to the boot? I've never mounted anything and don't have any shops around me. Might check out REI but doesn't look like they have a good tele supply. When I head to VT I can shop around up there (Bolton area) but don't wanna break the bank especially if these boots don't hold up (seemingly in good shape).

Fischer 98/112 or Madshus 68/78or Asnes Rabb 68 if your objective is to climb up and ski down-

Fischer 78/88 or Madshus 62 or Ingstad/Combat Nato if you are looking for a Nordic touring ski for steep terrain.

The Asnes FTX splits the difference.

You want a "waxless" scaled ski?

I mounted both my Falketind 62 and Xplore at balance point. I believe the Fischer S-98 / S-112 had a slightly different mounting point. Chord center is the measurement of the tape hooked to the tip, measured to the tail, divided by 2, then hook the tail and measure that distance. If pin line is close to or within a couple cm (behind) chord center, you are probably in the neighborhood for a binding mount. Personally I think I can do a better job mounting bindings with a paper template, than a twenty something using a jig, depending of course on skill and pride in work.

Asolo Snowfields used to be paired with 3 pins and skis around 55 to 60 mm waist width.

Thanks for all the advice again. Since I plan to do a lot of up and down with these I followed some of the advice from the response and went with a Madshus M68 with a rottafella super telemark. I guess I will find out if I need a skin but if I were to get one any suggestions? My thought is I will need something as my parents live skiing distance to a small 1 lift service ski hill in VT that I would like to use these on as well as in the woods/trails near me.
