Doing research on waxing turns up a lot of info on sanding, grinding, and structuring. I was really wondering how much of that was appropriate for an amateur warrior just learning to prep waxless and work on Telemark turns. So far, the information from this forum has been excellent and much appreciated. I think I'll skip the base grinding, sanding, and structure for now!

John is your FT white or black topsheet? I’ve owned both, well still own the black.

Well, I actually experimented with this on some in track classic skis long ago. Trying to raise some (hairies) for kick wax retention on icy, glazed trails. I noticed no difference, possibly due to my limited skiing ability. On the other hand,klister worked wonders. Keep in mind, this was for intrack skiing,though I have often used klister for backcountry touring in spring like conditions,with good results. Please keep in mind, when I say backcountry touring I am speaking of just heading out on a trail or lake with some ups and some downs, but not touring just for the sake of getting some turns.

I have the current Xplore series (says so on the ski!). Black, maybe dark green, top sheet.

I wouldn’t sand that ski, the camber is relatively low. Grip is good. I am very pleased with my 196 cm set.
I cork in Swix White Polar full length. I have had good success using Rex Universl Tar wax in cold powder snow. I have added Start Oslo waxes for course and wet snows.

Interesting. Is that the V05 Polar? So you cork in a kickwax the entire length of the ski? I would think that would affect the glide/slide...

Yes, the whole ski with hard V05 polar kick wax. It just works, until you get into too cold temperatures:D
