What if you just get a thin strip of shoe rubber (from a cobbler?) and glue it on with the shoe goo? That way it will be easier to get the right thickness as well as trim the shape.

Im thinking it would work best to add material (a few mm of rubber sheet, like semi-truck mud flaps ) to the top of the duckbill. sort of a crescent shape to curve around the toe. no messing with the sole or binding. just gotta get a good adhesive
