Rocker launch

Post by Johnny » Tue Feb 18, 2014 9:52 am

Well, it seems like the expression is back... Why? I thought this was something belonging to the past...

Never been a problem to me, you just have to know how to handle it, in case it's not due to beaten up boots...

But honestly, the last time I experienced rocker launch was several years ago when I finally got my first plastic boots. I ripped out all my 3 pin bindings from all my skis... (Who needs epoxy when you ski leathers & pins?)

Doesn't matter much to me... I mean, there's a million different ski/boots/bindings combinations, they're all good. They're just all different.

Scarpa's tour oriented boots (T2 Eco, for example) have rocker in order to, according to Scarpa, provide for a more natural stride. The downhill oriented boots (T1, T Race) do not have rocker. Personally, I switch between the two and cannot tell the difference, but perhaps I'm an insensitive person.

T1's/ T-Race still have a bit of rocker..hey, it ain't no sin!
But they have very little rocker compared to the old blue T2's
which were maybe the kings of useless rocker!

I suspect that having some rocker to preserve "natural stride"
is about not having a certain angle at which the boots sort of flop
in the skis when "striding"..How much actual striding
you might do in T2's is anyone's guess..
