The Blue Mountains (NE Oregon/SE Washington) had 11 inches over the weekend. First skiing today--the earliest ever for me. Interstate 84 was closed between Pendleton (OR) and I think Ontario (OR).
Even had a 1/2 inch of snow in Walla Walla (1000 ft. elevation).

Totally jealous too... About both the conditions AND the skis... 
From the little we see in the pictures, I would say some good old Rivas?

Yes, they are old Rivas. I'm amazed that you could identify the bindings from the tiny sliver that is showing in the picture... Sherlock Holmes would be proud!
I like using a pair of Alico leather boots with those skis. It's a great combo.

So what's the verdict Fish? I was down in SW MI over the holiday and there were TONS of leaves on the oaks but not on any other trees. What do you suppose that means for winter in MI?fisheater wrote:... It will be a good three to four weeks before I will know if the oaks will hold a good portion of the leaves through the winter.

I am a little early to be 100%, but this winter will definitely better than last. Last year, the leaves dropped off the oaks almost entirely overnight. This year it is mixed with some trees only holding a few, and the rest holding the majority of their leaves. The trouble is that the leaves have not all completely "tanned" out. They are still a bit brown. I believe in Oakland County we will have a decent winter. I would imagine we will have a thaw after we go white, and end up bare. I think I will get a lot more BC skiing than I have for the past couple years.
If I were to extrapolate that to the UP, you should have an epic winter if the forecast for above average precipitation is correct. Not cold enough to worry about Lake Superior freezing, but certainly a cold winter. I hope I can make it up to the UP this winter, it should be awesome!
