I screwed up on my powder boards recently because I didn't do that. I had polar on the tails but the wax of the day on the rest of the ski. I had the hardest green I had on which was right for the temp, but the skis were dragging. If I had polar on I would have had better luck with a scraper. I also regretted putting kick wax all the way to the tips.
