XCD north of Quebec City
I followed Lo-fi (alias Pank Ache) in his attempt to simplify things, mainly by using Voile cables bindings without pins (keeping the cables at all time, kind of loose...). I ressurect a pair of old Tua that were in bad shape (really rusty edges, uneven bases, little delam near the tails, etc). Put Superloops on them; they are good for that since they have a high dead spot (but very solid once you are passed that dead spot). I went yo-yoing in the Réserve Faunique des Laurentides. I had a blast. No fiddling with cables. I also made a wax pocket and used a pair of half skins...

Rod, I enjoyed the photos however I took Spanish in high school and it has proven to be quite useful here south of the border. However I do believe Ben tells that you write beautiful stories. In my mind looking at the photos, I'm sure it was quite a good day.

Le pépé, c'est Jacques Languirand... Histoire intéressante. Si tu as le goût de venir skier dans mon coin, tu es le bienvenu! Je peux t'accueillir à la maison...

Re: XCD north of Quebec City
I have a garage full of cheap old tele skis. Some I bought for the bindings on them and some I bought to ski, because those old skis were better performers for the downhill than the xcd skis that were offered for many years.
I am less interested in skiing those old skis since I've tried modern rockered skis. I wish my quiver was all modern rockered skis, but those old skis are a good value and a good option for someone building a quiver on a budget. You have to learn to kick wax them or use skins, which to me isn't xcd.

Re: XCD north of Quebec City
I have both; bunch of modern, bunch of old skis... I like them all for all kinds of reasons. Yesterday, I was with the father of Karhu XCD ski lines (designer)... I bought 2 new pairs: Pinnacle and 10th Mountain tour... I might put the 10th for sale (185 cm; I bought them for a friend which might not want them...). I am a bit sentimental; specially regarding the Tuas... If you look back at the origins of XCD, you will see Steve Barnett on his Karhu and Glittertind waxable & Allan Bard on all kinds of Xcountry skis (even without edges).
