I wanted to open a new thread for binding modifications. What have you done for the bindings? I know there are a lot of tinkerers dealing with AT pin toes and heel cables from 75mm bindings. I have also seen Johnny's nice heel lifters for NNNBC bindings.

My own little modification started from the frustration of not having a place to lock the cable on Voile 3 pin cable bindings, when I wanted to use the 3 pin toe piece only. I don't want to take the cables off, it's too finicky to put them back. I just wanted to be able to quickly engage and disengage the cable on the boot. My solution was to use the Rottefella Chili cables with some elastic cord and make a locking post for the cord. Please see the pictures, they explain my idea much better than words

If you have the newer style cable, where there actually aren't any cables at all (solid metal rods instead), it's plug and play. Or some bending may be needed at most, because the angle of the cable post on the bindings are not exactly the same. But it's very easy nevertheless.
The older style cable, where there are actual cables crimped to hooks, would require some grinding on the hooks to remove the little dimples on them.

Are you going with the same setup on your Rabb 68?
I have the 3-pin-hardwire with standard riser on my Storetind. I am not crazy about the riser when Nordic touring...I don't like it much at when XC skiing and they make the ski very aggressive and carvy on the downhill- a bit much off-piste and with a ski as narrow as 68mm underfoot I am thinking...

I have always just left the cable of the Volie 3PC just lay on the ski if I am doing some yo-yo skiing with it (I have it on my XCD Guide and XCD 10th Mtn).

I like your mod very much- I may need to copy it! Perhaps remove the riser plate on my 3pin-hardwire and use your bungie clip design...

I have not made any mods myself- though I do have a history of modding and customizing all of my work-related equipment...

The need to make my new Svartisen boots work may require lots of mod!

Probably similar, but I may want to use a 10mm Rottefella riser on that ski, as I don't have any climbing risers for any other heel pieces. Also the small rise might be good if I will use that ski as my groomer ski as well.

Are you not stomping on the cable heelpiece all the time? I think the Voile 3PC cable does not give very much slack when opened, as I have tried the same but it did not clear my boot heel when opened.

Feel free to copy the design, or even develop it further! But only if you share your developments here

I have always released the cable- then slipped out of the bale- let the cable lie on the ski- then snapped back into the bale.

Sorry, I don't really understand. Is bale the hinged part that is pushed against the top of the duckbill? Why do you need to open the bale to release the cable?

Today I had my first little ski trip with the cable locking modification, and I must say it worked really well otherwise, but the cables were a bit noisy when they moved a bit during the nordic kick phase. I need to put some soft material under the heel throw, and maybe reroute the bungee cord over the heel throw so that it pushes the throw against the ski more securely.

Absolutely Brilliant. I just happened to pick up a set of those Rotefella Chili bindings a couple of weeks ago. I was out on some rolling stuff today on my Alpinas and was a bit frustrated with the Voile cable, this looks like a good solution.
