That's a great film, saw it a while ago. Norwegians are made of tough stuff!

I would enjoy watching that very much. There aren't many movies in the States that interest me very much.

I'll have to be sure that I see that. My father served in Norway at the end of the war with a unit that included the remnants of the 99th Infantry (Seperate). The 99th was an American unit made up of Norwegian immigrants who could ski and wanted to volunteer for a commando role. They trained with the 10th Mountain Div. Pop was in another group of ski commandos, the FSSF. Probably why I ski. Dad never really did.

I read the book. Highly recommended.

Jack, is this the book that the movie is based upon. I'm not much for streaming movies, but I do enjoy reading a good book. Books are easy to buy, a big book store can usually get about anything in less than a week.

Same guy. The book also includes some pics of when he united with a his saviors.
Originally published in the 50's, so fresh in memories of his epic ordeal.

There actually is a book entitled "The Twelfth Man" by Scott and Haug that provides a detailed account of this story with emphasis on the people who both betrayed the mission and helped him escape. The film is "based" on this book and sticks fairly close to the story, with the added drama of the obsessive Nazi and an aerial attack to keep the audience engaged.

The book is an "engaging read"- not the world's best writers but the story is amazing and the authors have managed to convey the reality of living in small isolated communities living in fear of the occupier and in which some of your neighbours might be willing to betray you, either out of fear or alignment with the occupying force.

I would suggest that it is more of the "people" story than "We Die Alone" (but it has been awhile since I read that account).
