OMG TTS Question
OMG TTS Question
Is the downhill action strange or different on OMG TTS coming from 75mm considering the heel throw sits on top of the heel ledge and not in the little gap like a heel throw does on 75mm?

Re: OMG TTS Question
I haven’t skied the OMG TTS specifically, but have a Kreuzspitze and B&D set up, both with Switchback X2 back end and Dynafit radical toes. It’s not hugely different in feel to 75 mm, but you will notice a much superior edge control due to the tech toes.
Re: OMG TTS Question
I've tried comparing this before, and my recollection is that the heel throw position alone does not affect the downhill action that much, but it's easy enough to "carpet-test" with your own 75mm setup -- try one with the heel ledge and one with the heel groove at the same time.
I do have OMG TTS setups and what does strongly affect the activity is where the middle bracket piece is mounted and which of the three positions you use for the cables. I generally like active bindings, but with the OMG recommended mounting position for the middle bracket, I had to use the most forward position for the cables or it felt like my foot was being pulled out of the boot by all the heel retention.
The B&D option that Nick refers to is the most neutral of the TTS options, and the Kreuspitze setup is in between that and the OMG. The challenge with the OMG is that you can only move the middle bracket so much forward before it bumps into the tech toepiece, whereas B&D and Kreuspitze incorporate the cable attachment into the toepiece mount. Note that B&D only gives one cable pivot position, while OMG and Kreuspitze give three positions.

Re: OMG TTS Question for @Andy
Andy, since you have experience with those TTS, do you also have experience with tech NTN? Or just plain NTN? How do they compare in terms of feel (comparing similar activity)? I know it is a broad question; I also know the mechanical difference between them... I am looking into TTS. And I tried a couple of times NTN bindings and didn't like them (short size boots do not help). Never tried tech NTN. My set up for deep snow — a set up that I really like — is BD 01 with free flex and Wayback and T2X; I do not like too much activity in soft snow. Not needed.
So, I really like the feel of this set-up but not the weight. From my understanding TTS should feel similar to 75 mm (no duckbutt), perhaps with stronger toe connection. And there is the choice of pivot location that helps... I would like to try but... never seen any demo nor even someone with that set up.

Re: OMG TTS Question
Yes, I have experience with NTN, and, IME, NTN has a much different (and more restrictive) feel compared to TTS, and TTS is much closer to 75mm.
With NTN, I found that it took me several days to get used to it -- with OMG TTS, it took me a few runs.

Re: OMG TTS Question
Some are saying that the OMG toe piece isn't the best, in terms of fiddling with the pins... The center is a little higher, making it harder to engage and align the pins. Is that so?

Re: OMG TTS Question
I had read so-so reviews of the OMG toes too, and I had an old pair of Dynafit toepieces, so I bought the OMG option w/o the toepieces (and w/o the hardwire cables too, since I had some spares).

Re: OMG TTS Question
Do you need to stay upright with your set up or you could go down knee to ski? I do not like the feeling of bottoming the cartridge and I do not ski knee to ski (sauf exception). I read that it depends on pivot location and boot size also. Where did you put the pivot?

Re: OMG TTS Question
I generally have an upright stance but do go low on occasion -- I haven't bottomed out the springs on my TTS setup.
I have the cables in the most forward position of the OMG bracket, but it would be better if the bracket were mounted farther forward to make it less active. The Dynafit toepieces that I'm using don't allow me move it much farther forward w/o cutting some plastic off the toepiece baseplate.

Re: OMG TTS Question
I jumped onto the OMG binding when it was in beta version 2 (2 3 position blocks) which was before they came out with their toe. At the time the SkiTrab Race was on offer so I opted for that. My boots were and are the orange TXPros and I had a try of the then new NTN bindings which I immediately hated finding them slow to engage, having a very uneven ramp up of activity and bottoming out way too soon. For me TTS was an total winner with instant engagement and a sweet progression. The only downside was the original short springs. I bought a second set the next year with the longer (but still too short) black Voile springs and set up with Dynafit toes. I put inserts in so I could change the pivot easily. A couple years later I got the long red Voile springs from Moonlight and that allowed full knee to ski. I added a complete Moonlight binding to the stable and must say their toe is the best I have used in the conventional tech design but I have the amazing SkiTrab Gara Titan on my wide touring skis. I love those for their simple and elegant design which almost eliminates moving parts. They are normally closed and you hold then open with a pole to step in. This works surprisingly well.
All of these setups are light years ahead of 75mm in terms of weight, feel and control. I also find that they all release reliably when needed and have had almost no unwanted prereleases. I always use the regular cable groove not the notch above the heel.
PSA- Moonlight is offering 25% off at the moment but the binding is out of stock until December.
