Eew! That snow is so dirty, how can you ski it. :D. I am seriously jealous, our BC Premier said our Provincial Parks would be open on May 14, so I had my skis prepped and ready to go for a skin up the closed Cypress Bowl Ski area. When I checked the BC Parks site, lo and behold, both Cypress and Mount Seymour were still closed. TABARNAC! I learnt that word from reading Louise Penney novels.

In a way, I can see why. As a long time back country skier, hiker and mountain biker I know you have to be prepared for things going sideways, and I always am with the right gear. But, Vancouver has the North Shore Mountains just across the bay and our multi-cultural population regards them as just another city park. So Search and Rescue is constantly busy rescuing totally unprepared people.

This is what happened in NH. People came to the mountains to hike while in lockdown and "what do you mean there's snow still up there!?" and they had to do something around 30 rescues (people calling for help with cellphones-- who knows if they actually needed the rescue if they applied themselves). The volunteer corps of SaR's are standing down right now, so it was up to State Police and Fish & Game to do the rescues. They weren't pleased. Parking lots closed. Thanks, morons.
