Kid's on tele Q?

Post by hoodoo65 » Sun Feb 01, 2015 5:45 pm

My 9yo boy is riding his little tele set-up really well. He currently has a small Garmont (75 mm T2 style) boot and a standard fix. I consider a switch to NTN mainly for safety reasons (no more leaches, easy step-in, more power, etc). I found a demo Scarpa TX Comp for cheap and I already have a spare NTN binding for him. Wondering if he'll be able to flex this boot. I ride a TX Pro, it's a quite stiff set-up…

Any input on this ? Thanks, JF

Do you mean the TX comp is too stiff ?

Yes. way too stiff for a 9 yo. I'm 6' 5", 230 and I don't really like the Comp for making tele turns unless I'm really charging hard. I much prefer the Tx Pro and I'm getting a pair of Tx boots. I would say there is no way a 9 yo could flex a Tx Comp unless he is freakishly strong, big(like adult size) and has big feet.

The beauty of NTN is that you don't really need a super stiff flexing boot.

Wow, they actually make TXComps for kids?

I'm curious... What size? They're as stiff as the other comps? Same color?

I thought they didn't make boots below size 23-24... Well, yeah, maybe 24 mondo would fit a 9 yo boy...

I would definitely go for a softer boot... But if I had a lead for a cheap pair of Comps, maybe I would try...

Johnny, I think his boy is wearing adult boots now and they don't make a kids Tx Comp as far as I know. Some 9 yo kids have big feet.

He wears 4-5men's (US) wich converts to roughly 23. There are a couple of «demo» Comps (small sizes) on eBay right now with a low starting bid. They're not kid's boots, but I can't believe a 23 would have the same flex as a 29… What are your thoughts on this ?

I didn't know about the 3 buckles TX model until a forum member posted about this model. They are rare on the used market. Only knew about the Comp and the Pro (my ride !).

Hope my english is not too bad !!!

It's cool, French is my second favorite culture only to German.

I cannot deny my love for pork, beer and free education:
