Snow started in mountains here again. Hopefully, it will stick around this time. This is from a webcam at about 4400 feet.

First (half) day at Smuggs for me.
New boots, bindings and skis, so it was a bit of an adventure.
Volkl Nanuq with Axl and Scarpa T2.
Very different than my Epochs with Voile 3pin cable and T4s.
Run 1 and 2 were rough. Lots of pointing back uphill.
Run 3 I started to feel the skis and how they might want to turn, but noticed some serious slop in cable tension, so snugged it up.
Run 4 was crap. Really busy all of the sudden and couldn't find my center.

Looking forward to more!

I'm very jealous of everyone else's snow.

Mike - how is the setup feeling when you stand up and parallel ski? On groomed snow I'd want to feel comfortable with a stem christie or parallel skiing before I went to tele.

The little bit of groomed snow XCD I've done, I've mostly used tele for balance, but I'd just go slow and subtly change my rear foot pressure and angle and feel how the rear ski would want to bite or skid. I know in some icier conditions I'd not weight my rear foot enough and I'd spin right around. It seems to me a strong front pivot i.e. too much weight on the front foot will spin you right around on hardpack conditions.

I paralleled most of the day... did that alot too on my Madschuss Epochs and T4s. Totally do-able with the heavy(ier) boots and stiff bindings compared to what I was using.

Groomed was relative yesterday. Thin cover low down, and pretty skied out higher up. I usually do a morning on the easy groomed blues / greens going back and forth in big turns to get comfortable each season - that wasn't happening yesterday - just not enough open yet.

From our tour up to Lobo Overlook last weekend. My wife took this from the road above the switchback I had come down with our little guy in tow. Wolf Creek ski area is in the background.

That's a great shot! Never took the kiddos in a sled. Have pulled them behind the bike in all weather. They are itching to get out - both in ski school again this year. Allows me to try and chase the wife around the mountain, and gives us a guaranteeed lunch date.

We have one of those Thule/Chariot stroller/bike trailer/jogging stroller contraptions. Some friends of ours hooked us up with an xc ski attachment. It's pretty sweet. Our little guy is 8 months old. We are trying not to slow down too much. [emoji1]

We moved from Bakfiets to trailer to Yuba Mundo

That's awesome. I'm waiting for the day to get him on a Strider.
