Thanks T rock, it was a sweet day, and that little bump demonstrates the benefit of no wax or kick wax touring over skins. I made those turns about two weeks after the last storm at the most popular BC spot in the state after the rest of the mountain was tracked up. I find a lot of areas that hold good snow but the runs aren't long enough to make the use of skins practical.

The lake skiing is EXCEPTIONAL right now. Good solid black ice underneath 3-4" of sleet/snow combo that has frozen hard into unbreakable crust, with 2" of cold smoke on top. Ideal! The skiing is fast and silent AND the poles don't skip on ice nor do they sink deep, but purchase quickly into a styrofoam like material just under the smoke.

The moon is out and bright, and GAMME 54 leads the way!

Beautiful lighting in that photo Woods.

Skiing on the lake is my only option at times back in Pa. because of lack of cover. Last time around the lake I chose not to use poles. I think it was actually faster. I was on some track bushwackers so maybe more conducive to this than a highly cambered skinny track ski.

I have also been thinking about getting some Nordic skates. You can put a ski bindings on them and use your ski boots.
