Decoding various size # on T4 boots

Post by Freakboy » Sun Dec 04, 2022 3:10 pm

I just grabbed a pair of used T4. The size (mondo 28) seemed to match my T2 (us 10) however the T4 lining is clearly shorter when comparing the 2. The sole length is exactly the same. The T4 feels a bit short with my foot in boot. Will not know for sure till we get snow.
In trying to puzzle out why same mfg. Boots can differ in size i started looking at numbers marked on various parts of plastic boot. I have always thought the shells fit a range of foot sizes simply by changing the liner....so 1 shell could accommodate size 10, 10.5, 11 and so on. Someone must have covered this topic of boot shell range of sizes in past but i have not found any thread starters using search. Any links much appreciated.
I can unload the T4 to a ski buddy who has smaller foot, however i still will need replacement for my beloved Crispi CXT which have extreme wear on the bellows crease and am afraid they wont last much longer.

Thanks

Scarpa breaks on the half size.
A 28.0 shell can accomodate a 27.5 and 28.0 liner. (My size as well)
If you need bigger you will have to go to a 29.0

Take the liner out of the boot and push your foot until your toes touch the toe cap of the boot.
You should now have a gap between your heel and the back end of the boot.

See how many fingers you can place behind your heel and the back end of the boot.
One to two fingers is a good fit.
Less than a finger you will probably need to go up a shell size.

I have both 27.5 and 28.0 liners in my TX pros.

My older T4s liners, non thermo stitched, had a very narrow toe box. Not sure if the shell last is the same as the T2.

That’s right, two liners, one shell size. Also, the older shells had UK sizes printed on them.
My boots are 27.5 but the shell says 8.5-9 on them

My Root Beer T3s say size 9 and they are a Bees Dick shorter than my TXs and T2Xs.
They too have the sewn liner.
I quite often put my T2Xs liner in the T3s ....better leverage from the tongue.
Do your Crispi Liners fit?

Great info thanks. It confirms my suspicions the T4 are not really a size 10. The liner says 28, but the shell says 8/9. Will just have to see how much they hurt once there is snow....will it ever snow in the Whites damn it!!!
I am afraid there will Never be a new plastic tour/downhill boot produced again.

The Scarpa UK size number seems a little contradictory
I have 27.5 T2X, says on the liner, but the shell has printed 8.5-9 which maybe contradicts.

See here: https://www.nordica.com/assets/download ... oot-en.pdf

Anyways the liner number seems right as I wear 27.5 ski boots, US 10.5 shoes, and Euro 43 Fischer BCX boots.

Also…. If those T4 liners are thermoformable, someone with a smaller foot may have had them thermoformed and hence shrunk a bit to their foot size. Would explain the unexpected shortness. You can have them formed again at a ski shop, or do it yourself with in the oven but I don’t recommend doing it yourself as it can end up contracted onto your toes rather much if you don’t have good toe cap molds to do it with.

I contacted Scarpa to see if the T4 will be available in the future.
YES THEY WILL BE!!! Possibly by February.
Great news
