BD STS tip loop width?

Post by bogon » Mon Jan 20, 2014 12:33 pm

I'm having two pairs of uncut skins, and, being unfamiliar with STS hardware, am trying to decide on the width of tip loop.

Taking into consideration possible snow packing between black skin tip unit and the ski, how many millimeters of protruding ski tip in front of tip loop (cable or black plastic thing? You decide) can You recommend?

Also, the skins manual states that I need to cut them while at 4th hole of tail strap. Why 4th? What if I'll cut while on 2nd? Are they really THAT strechy?

p.s. LoveJohnny, please consider creating separate gear sub-forum, so this one will be more or less free from geeks/gearwhores and will contain more general discussion.
I like all kinds of snow. The only poor snow I know of is ice. That better be climbed.
