Perhaps being from another country, it's difficult for you to understand what's happening in this one. Trump supporters, who were never a majority and are shrinking in number, will not ever be accepted back in to the national conversation. No one is just going to forget what they did at this pivotal moment in the country's history. This is NOT simply another "political disagreement". This completely trancends politics. Why? Because Trump and his supporters actually don't value the norms and practices of liberal democracies. They wave the flag around a lot but they're actually deeply un-american in their thinking patterns and in how they see the nation's future. They don't believe in the rule of law, an independant judiciary, an open and vibrant free press or transparent and fair elections - all hallmarks of liberal democracies for hundreds of years. They are drawn to authoritarianism and authoritative leaders. They look at Trump's actions vis-a-vis Putin and in the Ukraine and say, effectively, "so what?" When he re-tweets some skinhead shouting "White Power!" they say, effectively, "so what?" They no longer have anything in common with ordinary Americans nor do they support what were always considered, by both Republicans and Democrats, to be fundamental American ideals. So no, there will be no happy ski trips with Trump Trash like Grampa Tele. He will be treated like a pariah. I do not have a single friend who supports Trump and I never will. Family members who support Trump will never be spoken to again. Ever. They will and are paying a price for their bigoted, illiberal treachery. They're already complaining about it but their protests fall on deaf ears. I don't even recognize them as fully human, to be honest. I find that fact rather sobering but I can't do anything about it. If Trump and his followers aren't roundly defeated in November, this country will not stand. We are in an existential struggle for the soul and future of this country, it is no less stark and dramatic than that. So while you may, from afar and with a limited understanding of this country and what's happening here, find this upcoming election "interesting", no one here does. We find it daunting, foreboding and scary. We know Trump will stop at nothing to get re-elected. He'll enlist help from foreign governments, suppress votes and manufacture "crises". When he loses he will falsley declare that he was robbed and his armed and ignorant supporters will almost certainly do.....something. I'm sorry but this upcoming election isn't remotely "interesting". This will almost certainly not end well.Nitram Tocrut wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 5:21 pmHey guys,
You should plan a ski trip together so that you could argue about your different political views and then post a report. That will make for a really good reading
