Re: Alpina Alaska 75 boots
In reviewing this thread I purchased my Alaska 75 in a 2020 summer inventory reduction sale. It was less than $100 delivered to my door. The price and the fact my Alaska BC fits me like custom made, made it easy for me to give the Alaska 75 a try, despite the reported durability issues.
Fast forward to February 2025. I love this boot! I only ski it with one ski my Falketind Xplore 196, although I also did ski it with my original Falketind. The original Falketind was mounted Voile 3-pin cable. The Falketind X is mounted Rottefella Super Telemark with cable.
Every year I like this boot more. I really don’t ski my Alaska 75/FTX as often as I like. I only ski it when conditions are good for XCD, which is fresh snow over a decent base, with the exception since that is limited in my neighborhood, so I also ski this combo on hopefully enough fresh snow over rocks and gravel.
I ski had and fast. I make lots of Telemark turns, and I make a lot of laps to make those turns. I sometimes attach the cables, other times I don’t. As Johnny stated at the start of this thread cables aren’t necessary IF you are on your skis. I’m not Johnny, I still use training wheels. The Rotte cable really does make for a stiffer longitudinal connection.
I just thought this boot could use a positive review. I’m getting ready to head out on it soon. If it were to fail, I think I would order another and pay the expedited shipping. Yes, I really like this boot.
I haven’t skied the Xplore system, however I am very happy with Rotte ST 75 mm, and my Alaska 75. I have no interest in pursuing another boot or binding system. I’m really happy with what I have. Comfortable touring, good kick and glide, excellent downhill performance.
