I just committed myself to this year's FT62 which I'm in the process of trying to tack on to Neptune Mountaineering's current (though net yet fulfilled) order with Åsnes.
In the meantime, for any of you out there keen on grabbing a pair of last year's version (red top graphics), Neptune has one last 180cm in stock at a 30% discount. The final price is about $360. I would grab them, but I really think I need to be on the 172cm. If you do pull the trigger, tell them that the guy (Chris) looking to special order the 172s sent you -- maybe they'll give me a little kickback on my purchase.
I own and ski a red topsheet FT 62 in 188. They are a great ski, but I wish they were 10 cm longer. They just aren’t that powerfully cambered, they are very rockered, I really think a 180 cm would be fine. These aren’t stiff GS skis, these are softer backcountry skis. Length is very important for cross country performance.
I’m old, I skied 205 cm skis for many years. I have difficulty thinking of a 180 cm ski as being long. However Johnny has a fondness for short skis. He skis tight trees in Quebec in a manner that appears effortless, so I guess there is more than one way to skin a cat.
@fisheater I'm looking at getting a pair of these, trying to figure out the right size. I'm 6'1" and my dry weight is 165lbs. For reference, I have Nansens at 190, I find they are too small and I'm going to try to sell them, should have gotten 195 or 200. In a madshus classic race ski 44mm waist I use 205s. You have 188cm FT62 but I don't know your height/weight. How would you recommend sizing these? At only three sizes, sizing seems pretty coarse! Leaning to 188cm, 180cm just seems too short somehow, though I'm on the cusp of either according to the Asnes sizing chart. Thanks, David

I know I'm not Fish, but I am 6'2" 155lbs dry without gear and no way would I go with the 180 on these. I bought a pair of FT62s 188 with total confidence.
My Voile Objectives are 178 and at 85mm in the waist they are JUST long enough and I would love to see them in a 185. My V6's are 178 with a 99mm waist and perfect.

I made my living pouring concrete for 20 + years, so I have a cement man’s body, 5’9”, 190 ish. I used to ski 204’s, 205’s for years downhill. So, I guess I’ve always considered 188/188 as short skis.
Short or long, the one thing a downhill ski needs to have is enough torsional rigidity to hold an edge while arced. The FT has enough torsional rigidity to arc fast turns down black diamond pitch runs on hard pack.
Being a really light ski, it gets pushed around by crud and sun/wind crust. It skis nicely in powder.
I would advise to go long if only for the reason of cross country performance. This ski turns, I wouldn’t be concerned about length unless you were skiing super tight trees. The ski is not really stiff, torsionally rigid, but not stiff. You will have no trouble bending it at 165 lbs.
