A little update on "Nordic Rocker"...

The Nordic Rocker technology by Fischer was first announced in 2011. It was first available on their S-Bound and Spider series. "Nordic Rocker Camber: No, the tips and tails don’t have the obvious splay of alpine and tele skis with rocker. But the tip does rise over traditional skis when weighted. This aids in climbing, as the tip will climb up out of the snow, and in turning in soft snow."

Here is an excerpt from a technical paper: (Google-translated)
Fischer Nordic Rocker 2.jpg
"Skis with a Nordic Rocker design are unmatched in deep and fresh snow. They are easy to manage due to increased ski tips; they return faster and effortlessly due to the redistribution of pressure. Nordic Rocker design is characterized by two digits. For example, in a 10/15 design, the digit 10 indicates how many millimeters the toe is raised when the skis are weighted. The number 15 indicates the number of centimeters on which the area of greatest pressure from the toe to the heel during the load is displaced. Thus, at the moment of compression of the ski, the tip is unloaded and the ski is not buried in the snow, providing good flotation."

You can find a much better and clearer explanation by Lilcliffy right here. Since the term "Nordic Rocker" seems to be the property of Fischer, I wonder if there might be some copyright issues here? The new Ingstad BC is totally different from FIscher's Nordic Rocker, like night and day. While being really nice too, Fischer's Nordic rocker only adds a few millimeters, while the Ingstad "Fjellski" opens up to 410mm from the tip, more like a real rockered downhill ski but with a flex adapted specifically for XCD.

But it's interesting to see that Asnes does use the term Nordic Rocker on its website:
- Ingstad is equipped with a moderate wax pocket and a Nordic rocker/taper.
- Nye Ingstad har fått en markant Nordisk rocker og taper tupp, noe som gjør skien mer svingvillig
I made things even more simple, I called Asnes technology Nordic Magic. A lot cooler isn't it? Even cooler, what about Gnardisk Mahgik? Hey Asnes, I can sell you the name for a pair of Tinds...! (In case of a later copyright infringement legal pursuit, this post is time-stamped November 14th 2017...) 8-)

I will measure the Nordic rocker on my Fischers when I get a chance!

So- I actually measured the Nordic rocker on my Fischers:

1) 2015 210cm E99 Tour Easy-Skin: 23cm
2) 2015 205cm E109 Tour Easy-Skin: 26cm

(I have been wrong about the E99 opening up more than the E109! )

A lot more rocker than the S98- but still much less than the new Ingstad.

Nice! Thanks for sharing...!

For reference, "Nordic" rocker on the Objective (compressed camber) is 320mm... 8-)

Is that in addition to the actual rockered tip?

No no, I was not measuring Fischer style, I was measuring like normal rocker... 410mm on the Ingstad means 410mm from the tips end to the contact point... Quite different...

Ok- but the Objective has truly rockered tip doesn't it- meaning the tip is actually reverse-cambered without compressing the camber underfoot?

Yeah- just looked at the photo- those tips are rockered for sure- Voile's "hybrid rocker": rockered tip + single camber.

Do the Objectives open up even more when the single camber is compressed?

Yep, they do... That is why I was saying the Obj's "Nordic" rocker... ;)
They open up like 5-6cm more when compressed...

I don't think the ski industry / technology has ever been as exciting as it is now.. 8-)

Love it- but, what does "Gnardisk" mean?
