WTB: Karhu 10th Mountain Tour

Post by lilcliffy » Sun Nov 26, 2017 8:05 pm

Hunting far and wide for a vintage set of Karhu 10th Mountain Tour.

(What I am looking for is not the Karhu XCD 10th Mountain- which is the exact same ski as the current Madshus Epoch 99-68-84mm).

The version of this ski that I am looking for has the following specs:

Karhu 10th Mountain Tour
84-68-74mm
Waxable base
Length 200cm+
Cross-country AND down-hill skiing in the backcountry.
Unashamed to be a "cross-country type" and love skiing down-hill.

Does Ptex stick to those bases? I believe I have read here that the Karhu's have an extruded base. Can't beat the deal, I might be interested if you pass. I need a waxless cruiser, for when wax isn't working well. Right now my plan is to router scales into my other USGI. I just need to finish up a couple more chores, and I will be putting on my ski mechanic hat. Ski mechanics have no formal training, the just use the same techniques that work on everything else bikes, cars, houses....
I think they would be best utilized by you Gareth, Ptex and stone grind. I have dripped Ptex into all sorts of "unrepairable" to the core gouges. Those nn bindings don't match the screw pattern for a Voile 3- pin ;)

Hey Bob,

I already have more than a few waxless cruisers...

If you could use them go for it man!

I can't imagine these skis are "better" than my current 210cm E99 Tours- which truly are wicked skis BTW- they are actually a better XCD ski than the E109 Tour (though the E109 Crown is better than the E99 Crown  ).

I REALLY don't need those narrower 10th Mtn Tours!

I have wanted the wider 10th Mtn Tours for a VERY long time!

bgregoire found me a set a couple of seasons back in California of all places, but the seller wouldn't ship them to Maine- wanted to sell them locally.

ANYWAY- some day I just may have to make them:
-solid wood core
-84-70-74mm sidecut
-camber-and-a-half underfoot
-BC snow flex
-full-length integrated flex
-Nordic-rockered tip
-lengths to 210cm

These midwidth Karhus are the best distance-oriented BC-XCd ski I have ever skied- the closest thing I have found is the Combat Nato...

bgregroire describes them as "beloved" I believe...
