Steve Barnett's uphill pole plant

Postby Piggy » Fri Mar 30, 2018 2:58 pm

In Cross Country Downhill, Steve Barnett instructs to initiate a tele turn by planting uphill pole to push your currently-rear ski forward, the kind of dynamic you'd want from a kayak paddle. ALL tele skiers I've seen plant downhill pole to initiate turns like the alpine styles. Maybe there's a place for both methods? Can anyone set me straight? Many thanks.

Piggy I think that a lot of the stuff from that era is obsolete because of a combination of better gear and additional years of experience. Go with an alpine style poleplant.

If you read carefully XCD and Other Stories, it is not exclusive. He is advocating both methods depending on the terrain...
