Re: Åsnes Gamme
THIS IS MY AXE
Cannatonic led the way! "This is Canna's type of ski, this makes sense"
Fisheater made me sit up in my seat and take notice! "Woah, this guy might be on to something! Woah!"
Lilcliffy pushed me over the cliff! Do it, Woods! "Oh ye gods! Neptune!"
***
The fellow in green was in fine fettle.
The hair of his head was as green as his horse,
fine flowing locks which fanned across his back,
plus a bushy green beard growing down to his breast...
Yet he wore no helmet and no hauberk either,
no armored apparel or plate was apparent,
and he swung no sword nor sported any shield,
but held in one hand a sprig of holly-
of all the evergreens the greenest ever-
and in the other hand the mother of all axes...
(-Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, translated by Armitage, 2007)
(Really great read if you have the time... Armitage and Tolkien are the two best translations IMO)

Woods- very exciting!
The Green Knight indeed!
Have you the read the tale of Sir Gareth- the "Gentle"- the Knight of the Kitchen?
BTW- I like the reference to the axe. There is nothing quite like an axe...I love cutting wood almost as much as flying on snow and water...

Re: Åsnes Gamme
Good UTE article on the Gamme/E99 class ski... translated by Teh Googles
https://www.utemagasinet.no/aktuelt/ute ... i/rockeski
******
Åsnes and Fischer have launched each of their extra light mountain skis with rocking peaks. Gamme 54 has also - like the world's first mountain skis - moved the widest point a little from the tip, and UTE's mountain-skiing Pål-Trygve Gamme calls it a paradigm shift.
Pål Trygve Gamme has been developing the new Gamme skiing from Åsnes, which has the brother Alexander pictured on the way to the South Pole. Gamme is excited about what the new skis from Åsnes and Fischer bring to the mountain skating sport and believe they both have managed to move the boundaries further into integrating both rugged, fast walking and safe swinging skills in one and the same all-round skiing to the mountains.
"At Åsnes you have had Amundsen and Nansen, who are at the end of the scale. Amundsen is good for long and flat walks, it is rigid and stays well on the snow, but without any special swinging characteristics. The Nansen, on the other hand, is superb in swing characteristics, but limited to excitement and speed. After testing all competitors, I have thought that Åsnes lacked something in the middle that combines the best of two worlds, and here comes Gamme-skien.
So what characteristics does Gamme skiing have?
- Gammeskien has a little from both ends of the scale. It has swing and steering features like Nansenskien, but at the same time easier and more excitement, and is faster to join, such as Amundsen. The buckle means that it wears better and that the lubrication lasts longer. In addition, it has a recess in front, like a modern designed loose snow, which makes it easier to start the swing.
And what about Fischer 99?
"The fishing skis have less winding and more excitement. Honestly, I did not think it should be anything special before I tried it, but was pleasantly surprised. The rocker makes it easier to swing even though this is a ski that has prioritized more cross-country characteristics than stability and steering. Both skis are a good choice, whether you are going from cabin to cabin, in rough or bad tracks, while at the same time feeling safe in the downhill runs.

Re: Åsnes Gamme
I almost ordered a pair this fall. They were actually on my initial order! But I already busted my 25-pairs-a-year limit over 6 months ago... So according to the rule, I will have to wait until 2019...lilcliffy wrote:Somebody- that I can hound with questions on this site- better buy those sexy 200cm Kongsvolds at Neptune....

Did you tell your wife about the 12 pairs of brand new skis you secretly bought in the last month?

Re: Åsnes Gamme
This is true- too bad we couldn't make a Christmas short film with all three of us in Elf costume flying across a hardwood ridge with our red boots and Green-Man skis!!!fisheater wrote:Woods you have to show her Gamme! Anyone else out there with the boots and skis to join Santa's Little Helper Skiiers?
These skis are fast enough we could almost do standard ground shipping for 'Ole Saint Nick!
