Sorry for Spam: Fischer Traverse 78 Sizing Question

Hey all,

Thinking of pulling the trigger on some Traverse 78s (from Telemark Pyrenees - is that place legit?) to go with some Alico Ski March boots but I am not quite sure what the recommended length is for me, a 155-160 lb human. Cant find any literature that's not in German.

I'll mostly be on fire roads & trails, with some ups and downs expected, so I was imagining going a little short on them.

Pick the size based on your weight (body plus touring gear) and your height. Your weight would suggest either a 179 or a 189 if 160 lbs is your touring weight. If you are tall or plan to carry a heavy load, size up to at least your height.

I am 6'2" and 160lbs and I have 189cm. I also just got 199 because on the flats and if I'm wearing a pack I'm a little outgunned and the ski is slower than I would like. I HAVE NOT skied the 199 yet.

T.P. is totally legit. They also have E-99's, another good long distance ski.

Thanks for the replies, all. Woods - I just realized you live in NH. I'm in MA but plan on skiing mostly in the North Country and the NEK. What's a good all-rounder for up there? Wax seems like a PITA to me and I'm thinking of using the skis on forest service roads, snowed-in rail trails, and hiking trails too, here and there (very likely in Pawtuckaway). Is this Traverse controllable downhill?

"Controllable" is a relative term. They are controllable with a good amount of practice, and that's the same for any skis in this category. Skinny skis with floppy boots and no heel attachment is hard stuff and requires practice. BUT, you get to go places quicker on rail trails, closed forest roads, and the like, which isn't as hard and pretty straightforward (pun!)

The S Bound 78 was my first ski when I got into this wild mess. The 189 will go faster for you, the 179 will "turn easier" but be much slower on the rails or roads, the 199 will take better technique to go both fast and turn. I'd say 189 for a beginner skier at your weight.

It's a decent ski and a good place to start.

T.P. is legit, but be warned, I've ordered a lot of stuff from abroad lately and it's a crapshoot as to what clears US CBP quickly and what doesn't. I watch my tracked products quickly make it to Newark and sometimes I get them in a few days and sometimes it's weeks. I recently bought something from the UK and it took 6 days. I bought something from Iceland and it took 5 weeks. Both went through US CBP in EWR. Why Iceland got the screw I don't know.

REI has them and you get 10% back in dividends and no shipping if you have them dropped at the store in Reading, for example. Something to think about.

Yeah this is amazing input! I really appreciate it. My height is 180cm, and I don't plan on carrying much more than the essentials, so I was thinking of going with the 179. However, it sounds like it doesn't offer much of an advantage over 189, and the 189 will make the flat tours on rail trails with my girlfriend a lot more pleasant.

Love to roll the dice with international shipping. I'm in no rush!

I purchased boots from Telemark Pyrenees early in 2020, which were shipped to U.S.A. I spoke to them on the phone briefly prior to purchase. From my experience, totally legit, no issues, and their office/sales staff are very knowledgable on this niche market.

I would consider using them again, but it has to be a super sale because of freight charges to USA.
