Well I'm glad I hoarded up a bunch of Rivas when i did, I thought I was the only one.riel wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:56 pm
I want something that can obsolete not just NNN-BC, but also these Riva 2 & Z bindings I've been hoarding off eBay. I seem to encounter enough situations where I need some help from my heel to drive the skis, and cannot drive them with the toes alone, with Fischer BCX675 boots.

Here's a promotional video for it (with a guy at least in a tele stance).

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I does anyone know if the binding mounting hole pattern is the same as NNN BC (for retrofit)?

No, I just think they hired the same marketing firm as the Jehovah's Witness...bgregoire wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 1:10 pmGamme, Cecilie Skog, perfect powder, idyllic environment, EXPLORE binding, man, is this heaven or what?MatthewWintersteen wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 12:56 pmHere's a promotional video for it (with a guy at least in a tele stance).

Not to be crass, but...Roelant wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 10:38 amHere is a video of the system.

Hopefully, the "interchangeable flex" flexor doesn't remove as easily as in the video, where it seems like it could just fall out.
So you kick & glide with the "flex" (flexor), then stop and snap it out and snap in the "free pivot plate" for climbing, then once you reach the top, out goes the free pivot and back in goes the flex for the descent?!!!

@Lo-Fi,
Most innovations in a competitive market come with added gizmos that are actually quite useless (take cars for example) but still flashy from a marketing stance. The binding looks really cool and well designed in most all aspects except for this "free pivot plate". I'm sure it will be mostly useless in nearly all ski applications, and never used by nearly all skiers, exactly like the leash loop on the older versions of the NNN-BC Magnum.
I would not focus on that.
I wouldn't worry about the flexor coming loose either, I'm sure they just snapped off some bits to make it easier for the demo.
Have fun!

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding system
This looks like a similar system to Dynafit's.
Along with Nordic, classic K&G skiing which I enjoy for the K&G for a number of years off and on on a less serious level,
I ALSO enjoy Alpine skiing for 40 years. I'm good at that. Chutes, steeps, couloirs, peaks etc (nothing too extreme!).
And then I use rigid alpine boots and skis along with BC skis, boots and bindings with skins.
The B.C. boots are Dynafit Hoji's, bindings are Rotation 10's. This new Nordic system / CONCEPT looks the same IN THE TOE, except for locking in the heal. Years ago, Rottefella would've had to pay royalties to Dynafit to use this system (if I'm correct) but their patent expired (I'f correct) so anyone can utilize this tech, today.
Now, I like the ease and lightness of the Nordic Gamme with the NNN BC Glittertind's but I'm insecure with any honest descending. Scared, uneducated, inexperienced, no good at it... & I'm not interested in getting much better at it so I stay on easy does it terrain when coming down. I'm not interested in learning to tele ski! Why on earth is the heal lose?
SO, I've been wondering about a locking heal on the Rotte's NNNBC. -wouldn't that be great?
And look at that Dynafit stuff. LOOK AT THE TOE PIECE: Same concept on the toe as the new Nordic Rotte's isn't it? The light Dynafit stuff like the Super Light and Low Tech Race is like jewelry! & it can be locked in the heal for descending AND HAS heal lift.
The Boot: Hoji's & other Dynafit's have those indents in the boot way up front which allows great flexing or whatever that is to initiate a kick and glide motion... Those indents are metal, by the way.
One thing I see in the above video is the appearance of the indents in the boot being more hidden and recessed in from the side, compared to Dynafit's, which I can see better... That may be awkward!? I've gotten good at putting the boot in the toe but it's not always intuitive and if the New Rotte's are inset, that will be more challenging that the Dynafit system.
What's the benefit of using the new Rotte's system instead of the Dynafit system? I'm thinking kick and glide due to boots made for better kick and glide...
Are SKIMO boots able to replicate kick and glide? I gotta find out.
Instead of new Nordic bindings that are not up to DYNAFIT achievements, which require new boots, WHY NOT JUST DESIGN THE NEW BOOTS to KICK & GLIDE, & INCORPORATE THE EXISTING DYNAFIT BINDINGS AND UTILIZE THE HEAL PieCE FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO?
Ranting enough?

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding system
No, not really, then how would you telemark?
Not in way even close to satisfying a nordic skier.
I propose that if that was achievable, to satisfy a nordic distance-oriented skier, a telemarker, a locked heel alpine skier and still be safe all in one system, it would already be on the market. If you need to lock your heel, you'll have to stick to that dynafit alpine gear I'm afraid.
Hope you feel better. Have a good ski!
