Can't stand this trade war already. So, I'm not supposed to buy voiles or 22 designs, and in BC they won't be able to get bourbon.
What fresh hell is this.
Bankers get rich and politicians promote themselves, and the population is divided. And business suffer. FTW

Re: Trade War
At this point I do not believe Trump to be working for himself or his electorate. What I see is politicians across several country's colluding to raise prices on commodities. Its eerily similar to covid tbh. Justin Trudeau has even brought back the pandemic era line "we are all in this together".

I highly doubt anybodys spending habits change, nor wil material sourcing change. Just another scam to enrich the banks, the corporations, and the wealthy. Nothing changes except the cost of living. But Canada is already dangerously on the brink of economic disaster, so maybe it's a submission game....

Re: Trade War
Trump's goal is to hammer Canada economically until they submit and the US can 'absorb' Canada as a state. That's why Trump wants Greenland too; to have control of North America and expand the US influence to include the Arctic area too. And Greenland would be spatially close to Europe should he decide to go fully "Fourth Reich" and make imperialistic expansion into Western Europe. What does NATO do when one NATO country attacks another? Probably nothing when the inciting country has a massive military and nuclear arsenal. Trump seems to think that Western Europe owes the US for 'years of subsidization, wage theft via poorly negotiated trade deals, inequitable NATO contributions' and whatever else bullshit excuses Trump drags out of the toilet. Plus Trump has been slighted over and over again, rightly so, by competent European leaders and he has become the definition of rage.

Re: Trade War
If this is only something that Trump is after then there would be a concerted effort by the opposition to oppose it, as they successfully opposed so many of his actions in the past. If this is the actions of "the fourth reich", then the fourth Reich is likely the American Uniparty. And that's frigging terrifying

Re: Trade War
That's the thing though; there's no organized opposition to Trump. Democrats are not currently prepared to stage an effective resistance. The Democrats I think are very reasonably taken aback by the sheer amount of longstanding political norms that trump is shredding and the illegal motions that his administration is initiating. This can change and Dems are likely to start forming a more hard hitting strategy to address trump. This would probably occur in the states first, with solidly leaning Dem states, states like NY, VT, WA, OR, CA, NM, MA, MN, and a few others, would form a coalition to insulate themselves from trump initiated Federal policy. Essentially it would be free vs slave states again, with the free states preserving and enhancing the social safety net, ensure fair lawfulness, continuing climate change initiatives, ect. And the slave states essentially would follow a tax-less, zero safety net, zero environmental regulation free for all Mad Max dystopia. But trump wouldn't want this as most of the left leaning states produce most of the wealth for the US. As long as trump controls the narrative, caters and rewards his wealthy base, appeases the Republican lawmakers, he can do what he wants. Plus there are millions of angry people who are also very well armed in the US. All trump has to do is starve them a bit, create a scapegoat and then offer some small incentives and use these people to support him and achieve his goals.
Re: Trade War
This trade war is absurd. I won’t buy veils or Pattern 22, and British Columbia won’t get bourbon. Bankers get richer, politicians promote themselves, people are divided, and businesses suffer. Ordinary citizens pay for the decisions of the elite. When will this end?

From today's WaPo:
"MEXICO CITY — In a dramatic, last-minute move, the Trump administration agreed Monday to pause sweeping tariffs on Mexico for a month while the two sides hammer out an agreements on security and trade, the U.S. and Mexican leaders announced."
Also, Panama has decided not to extend the MOU with China.
We're arresting and deporting around 1000 illegal aliens with violent felonies per day now, and we'll be better able to keep them out.
Countries are now willing to take back their own citizens because of the effects of tariff threats.
Venezuela released U.S. prisoners, there's a ceasefire in Gaza (for now) and hopefully we can extend the Abraham Accords.
Mexico will now close the border from their side, which will hopefully stem the flow of fentanyl which is killing around 70,000 U.S. citizens per year.
If you give your neighbor $100 a day, and he gives you $40 a day, guess which one will run out of money first? The U.S. can't afford to have a trillion dollars per year in trade deficits. When you do that, you have to print money. Printing more money is extremely inflationary.
We are dismantling the censorship state, and beginning the process of eliminating the security state involving abuses by the FBI and CIA.
Hopefully we'll clean up our food supplies and make vaccine loads for 2 day old babies much lower.
We're in talks with Putin and "Z" to end the slaughter in Europe. Hopefully, Xi will be less likely to make a grab at Taiwan.
We are also just beginning the process of tracking down a quarter of a million minors that "got lost" in the U.S. during the last 4 years.
We're kind of busy.

Re: Trade War
Montana, I was making the point that Canada is hurting itself. The tone is noted. To be clear (I thought I was pretty clear, my sarcasm doesn't transmit sometimes)
Imo, the end game is the icefields. The continental divide. We are in an interglacial period of an ice age, drought will only worsen. Elon says "water isn't a problem, we will desalinate the ocean". Doubtful. Western Canada will be a state

I'm sorry that I came across as attacking with my comments. It was more of a generalized rant based on a cursory glance at comments. I think it was mostly due to my last comment, which I just edited out.
