First he says
Teleman wrote: We never bought into the downhill technique of "Modern" telemark....To busy enjoying riding the rail in an elongated tele that most in the (TE) tele era, worked hard to forget
Then he says
Teleman wrote:....Bout as close as anybody is going to get to freeform, no rules skiing,TM
I'm confused. Which is it TM? Do you embrace your strict interpretation of telemark (first quote) or or is it about freedom and no rules skiing (second quote)?

Gotta tell ya bear-man....Kingdom Tele Boys wouldn't take that sitting down...That bear would have problems unlike Goldie-locks....Bear can have my bindings...leathers....and poles....But beer....that's a war kinda thing....Conn-man everything goes in Telemark as you know, I think.....When referring to elongation that is another skill like in the realm of riding the rail....one long ski....riding....Different things require different solutions and we have zillions of them....Today this is awesome.....tomorrow not so much....Remember C unless heading West this old guy doesn't do downhill areas.....Totally BC dependent....This year I will swallow my bile and try a downhill area....Why not, at my age the cost will be pretty cheap....TM

Well Telelame, I agree with you(!) that the variability of skiing dictates MANY different solutions. As you point out, what works great one day may not work at all the very next day on the same slopes even. And what does "doing downhill areas" have to do with it? Why so reluctant? I thought you were open-minded about "freeform, no rules skiing." Does resort skiing on groomed snow somehow not apply?

Apparently that bear doesn't just like beer... remember this?

I think they'll all be sleeping by the time we get in the woods Teleman... I think your beer will be safe. Unless the polar bears start coming south!

What's good for the goose ain't always good for the gander. That's why this thread is bullshit.

There ain't no rules in skiing unless you talk to the PSIA instructors, and well, they might know a thing or two about certain situations, but mostly their focus is to get you to go down something as steep as possible as quickly as possible... fine.

Freedom means skiing uphill, downhill, and sideways. That's what the real meaning of cross country is anyway. Telemark and Alpine are just different methods of accomplishing the same task.

Well put MikeK! But no matter what you do, especially skiing it seems, there's always someone who comes along and tells you that you are doing it wrong and should do it more like them, be it an 'expert' PSIA instructor or a racist curmudgeon. Freedom means doing something your own way and not giving a fuck.

Yeah... we have to take curmudgeon-ry with a grain of salt. Sometimes there is something to be learned from those with experience.

Teleman's been doing the same online dance for years. And he's been beat up for it since it started I'm sure.

I know all about TM's endless online dance. ;) I usually enjoy skiers waxing on about skiing. I'm not trying to beat him up over it, I just want some clarity of his seemingly endless contradictions. Either he's open-minded about skiing or he's not.

Connie cut yourself some slack.....learn to be civil....If you are such a great telemarker show us.....My observation of your ability is that you NEED all the equipment you have and can get....Downhill is good for anybody who wishes to ski it....Remember the adage one turn in the BC is worth an entire day at a downhill area?....Mostly true but downhillers love downhill and they should revel in it....Show the love conny-man....TM

TM, where have I EVER bragged about being "such a good telemarker"? Have I EVER stated my ability level EVER? What is this "my observation of your ability"? You've observed me skiing? That seems weird considering we've never met nor skied together. I asked you about your endless contradictions, like the case I pointed out above, which you avoided answering entirely. You claim to be an open-minded skier on one hand yet on the other hand, you deride any technique or equipment that doesn't match your twisted and narrow definition of "true" telemark. So I ask again, which are you?
