Re: Voilé and Kästle selling XCD in North America
" I should also note that my leather boots are beefier than the Alaskas, however I have skied boots similar to the Alaska (crispi antartic) on wider xcd skis and that was still fine, just a little harder to control at speed." The Antarctic's have alot more oomph than Alaska's, and "wider xcd skis" l...

Re: Made my own skis…mounting advice?
As far as mounting point (pin line), that's up to you, and how you plan to use the ski. Seems to me it'll be for general touring, in which case pin line on balance point is, and has long been, the standard. Pin line on chord center was standard for a long time, until the advent of rocker, heavier an...

Ripstick 96's?
Bought a pass for the mountain (Jay Peak) this season, after about 3 lift served days in about 10 years (just a bad work schedule for skiing and high cost of passes). I'm thinking it might be a good time to up my all mountain skis, since I'm that much older and slower and want to feel solid at speed...

Re: Merrell fusion leather and buckle 75mm ski boots 40 and 41.5
Not my size, or I'd grab a pair. These boots are comfortable, and ski remarkably well for a leather boot, that rand provides way more stability than you'd think just looking at them. We used to have a pair in rentals when I worked at Cascade. One day a guy comes in looking for a solid BC boot to ren...

"Once you jank up the pin holes on those Bre, they’re janked. All the kings horses and all the kings men aren’t making the holes unjanked again."
Unless they install some Smilie plates. But I agree, don't try those boots in those bindings.

"I don't feel like plugging and redrilling, or having the pins 1cm further forward."
Well that'll reduce your options. All I can rcommend is replacing the Villom's, that's a big gap to try to correct. Bending the sidewalls won't work.

Re: 75mm binding too wide for my boot
Are you sure it's a 75mm and not at 79, which were around as late as the 1980's, and I'm pretty sure Villom made one. In any case, modifying the binding is, in all likelihood, not worth the trouble. Three pins can be had for little to nothing.

Re: Gear Basket
Going on season five or so with my FTP gloves; they're warm and durable; little sign of wear at all on mine. Almost sent them back when I got them... everything was really good except for the dexterity, which was not. Got used to 'em after a couple of seasons of "breaking them in", still my go to gl...

"With most, but not all, books, one would do best with the latest edition. Same with this book? Anyone compared the 1st and 3rd editions and can explain how they differ? Thanks." In this case, I think it depends on what sort of skiing you do; gear, experience level, terrain you ski, etc. Unless you'...
