Re: Sbounds...leathers
Raining over here today anyway, so not a bad day to miss. Tomorrow’s looking good though, the sunshine’ll feel good!

I’m surprised nobody’s shown interest in these; it’s a perfect light XCD kit for the northeast, at least. I’d grab ‘em if I didn’t already have my Objectives with cables.

Re: Leather care for Alico, Asolo, etc. telemark boots
If I recall, there was also a model called “Backcountry” in their line at that time, between the Legend and the Ultra’s (but my memory could be off on that). Do they have stiffeners built in at the ankles, or all leather? fgd135 might chime in also, he’s very good at ID’ing gear from that vintage.

Re: Adding more skis to my quiver
"I’m very curious about the length recommendations, since I seem to be right in between the manufacturers suggestions." There's no definitive answer for this, it really is your choice as to whether you prefer the maneuverability of the shorter length, or some extra float and glide (a little, anyway)...

Re: Merrell leather boot questions
I’d guess late 80’s or early 90’s; I’m surprised I don’t recall seeing that model as I was quite actively selling and skiing tele stuff those years, and Merrell’s were hugely popular. You could also replace the velcro with Voile straps, probably a little better performing than laces, if a bit funny ...

Re: Light gear does a good telemarker make?
Just offering some ski history as I recall it, nothing personal. Sondre found upon landing, the stance provided more fore/aft balance; that was the origin of the turn. In the town of Telemark. ‘Course one would need to turn to scrub the speed of landing from the jump. Speculation now on my part, but...

Re: Light gear does a good telemarker make?
"Telemark originated on "light" gear, serving the purpose of going downhill on nordic gear." I invite correction if I'm mistaken, but as I recall the turn was a technique innovated used by Sondre Norheim as a more stable means of landing a nordic jump. It went on to be used in alpine regions as well...

Re: What to do with an old pair of Voile Objectives
Regarding the camber, it will be the same with either BC or waxable Objectives. I’m curious about water damage from your binding pull out though; was the ski exposed to snow or water after the binding pulled? Loose screws &/or insufficient or breakdown of glue for the mount can also let moisture in,...

Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
"why do skis need leashes/breaks, but not snowboards? i see runaway snow boards almost every day at my job. i mean i understand why a ski with DIN release would need breaks or a leash. but why an nnn-bc ski that is never coming off my foot unless i consciously open the binding and take the ski off m...

Re: XCD skis on hardpack at the resort
"no one ever any where at any resort (at least in these parts) would ever bother you about a leash or ski breaks." That's unfortunate. I have at times been on tele gear without a leash at the resort, and I can understand being more casual about it with light duty xcd gear, but really don't advocate ...
