Re: breathable shell jacket? is there one that lets sweat out but keeps you dry
I have been using the Black Diamond First Light Hybrid Hoody and have been impressed during this cold spell. Seems to ditch the heat well while the shell blocks the wind and has good insulation. This has insulation? Description sounds like just a shell. Curious how well "active shells" function, th...

Re: XCD - the past and future of skiing?
The main reason I am switching more and more attention to XCD is that I can get a decent challenge on NNN BC and 75mm gear without entering avalanche territory. I can see why you need to subtract quite a lot from that number - because skiing will cease to be so much of a family activity. Resorts gi...

Re: XCD - the past and future of skiing?
Can't see resort skiers heading into the BC even with resorts closed. You're right in the sense that most resort skiers aren't particularly keen. It's not very easy to start an in-depth conversation about skiing at a resort... But (say) 10% of the total would still constitute quite a large number. ...

Agreed. Vibram needs to make hiking/mountaineering soles with tech inserts for XC leather boot options.12gaugesage wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 10:14 amLooks clean, light and simple. Now we need some lightweight boots. Whatever became of that Crispi BC boot?

Re: XCD - the past and future of skiing?
I'll join in. Not like I'm going anywhere. Can't see resort skiers heading into the BC even with resorts closed. My perception on the popularity of AT gear is driven by side-country resort access rather than any major movement to the BC. If the resorts go so will the people. XCD on the other hand is...

Re: Ski Review: 2018-2019 Åsnes Ingstad BC
Deep dry powder turns to sierra cement and I couldn't be happier! In real deep powder Ingstad has been pretty difficult. Things warmed up to 30º and snow is much denser (5'-6' compressing to 3'-4'). With center compressing a foot under surface tips float nicely. Easy to get some glide going. P...

Re: Ski Review: 2018-2019 Åsnes Ingstad BC
Like Cannatonic... Get the mohair skins for this ski. The 30mm should be fine for flat travel, 45 or 58mm for serious vertical work. I use my 30mm mohairs on my Gamme 54's in waxless conditions all the time and trimmed right, they are fantabulous. Work great. Been using 45 mohair a lot and they wor...

Re: Skins and wax help!
I can rub in Glopstopper by hand on skins with no problem, I would only use it with rubbed-on wax vs. melting wax on the skin -- Also, you should not leave adhesive skins on skis for longer than necessary and don't leave them on after the tour - Thanks for the advice. Not sure why the Globstopper i...
