Re: Åsnes Borge Ousland BC Ski Review

I am looking at getting the Borge Ousland for "Nordic" skiing, half in groomed tracks, half for easy Backcountry. I would have thought to get NNNBC Magnums, but I think the extra width of that binding can dig and grab at the sides of the tracks. Anybody used the regular NNNBC? I would think it would...

Polar skiing

For those of you interested in polar skiing: Mike Horn and Borge Ousland just crossed the North Pole and Mike Horn's videos are amazing.

Re: GPS Apps and touring speed

I have done a lot high route off-trail backpacking in the Sierras and Rockies and for these uses I highly recommend GaiaGPS or CalTopo. I think they would work very well for Backcountry skiing as well Both are amazing mapping software. You can get contours, elevations and layers from a variety of ma...

Re: Åsnes Borge Ousland BC Ski Review

Thanks Johnny, it feels like the most important decision in my life right now . . . Nitram/Martin, yes, I'll have to move quickly! Not sure where you are in Quebec. Any recommendations around the Mt. Tremblant National Park area? I am going to the Park itself for a couple of days over Christmas. But...

Re: Åsnes Borge Ousland BC Ski Review

Johnny, really looking forward to hearing how these work in practice. I'm still debating between the Ousland and the Gamme for my quiver of two - the other skis is an FT62 for xcD. So comparison between Gamme/Ousland would be helpful to me! Seems like my choice might be made for me, since La Cordee ...

What? That is a shame! Maine Huts To Trails is a real gem, so disappointed to hear that!

Re: Ingstad 205 vs 195

Similarly I got the FT62 at the longest length possible (188 cm, only three sizes available). At 6'1" and 170lbs, I was just on the low end of the Asnes recommendation for 188 and just from reading the charts the next size down would have seemed the better pick. But I think the 188 is perfect for me...

Re: Maine where to ski

If you want a hut to hut tour, try Maine Huts and Trails system near Sugarloaf and Carrabassett Valley. While it is groomed trails, you can link four huts together that are ski in only and it feels very wild and remote. Fantastic food, shared rooms. I did it in the summer as a hiking trip. My favour...
