Re: Chouinard Tele Binding
Yeah, those 50mm NN bindings and related boots had a very very short retail life span, come and gone in just a few years, mebbe mid 1970's to about 1981, never popular, quickly superseded by the much better early Adidas and Solomon systems, and NNN. 1983 was probably the last year or so of their com...

Re: Chouinard Tele Binding
That Chouinard cable with the front throw lever was the first cable binding sold by Chouinard (aka "The Coonyard"); it was a stock Rottefella cable design, the Junior Cable, with a plate for 75mm tele boots. Nothing is really new when it comes to cable bindings; even the Rivas, Riva IIs, et al., wer...

Re: Summer's here
Leather hiking boots or Trail Runners? All of that plus tele boots and skis for spring descents! We had 11" of snow a couple days back, above about 9500', and good spring conditions otherwise. Sometimes when I'm spring hiking, not skiing, I'll carry smaller racing snowshoes, with easy-on-and-off bi...

Re: Conditions
Very jealous of west coast conditions… Not jealous of skiers who live there tho… It would be like being jealous of Daytona Beach or New Orleans residents during a four month spring break. If you ski here, you ride the lifts on weekdays, and avoid skiing at resorts and downhill ski areas at all cost...

Re: Shoestring Bindings: Free the Toe?
Great fun TG! And on what appears to be touring skis with very little sidecut! And in junk warm spring snow conditions! You should make a point to try the same idea next winter in softer conditions and see if you have better control. As an aside, some 3 pin bindings have slots in the vertical part o...

Neptune Asnes on Sale
I don't have any association with this shop, but did get a notice that their skis are on sale, and they ship:

Re: Broken ski :(
Here is a cross section through the Åsnes Otto Sverdrup. And yes the front binding screws touch the "air channels", although they are less deeply carved in where the front of the binding mounts. I guess this makes it extra critical to plug unused screw holes properly, humidity could have seeped pas...

Re: New skis for Finnish Defence Forces
Please people don't ski with no bindings... Freda Langell, a fixture, an icon, in Summit County, had a great story about witnessing a tourist at Keystone, (or maybe it was Copper Mtn) walk up to a base lift wearing new ski boots, and carrying new poles, and skis "without any bindings". He stopped, ...
