Re: New skis for Finnish Defence Forces

Used skis are sold in Millog's surplus store SA-Kauppa which does not do deliveries. Like 20 dollars a pair. Sometimes they get unused skis, but usually they are very worn. I found some in decent condition when I went through their shipping containers a few years back. I enjoyed that SA-Kauppa web ...

Re: X-skins on Combat NATO

I don't have a pair of the military skins, but use both the 30mm mohair and 58mm nylon Asnes skins with the plastic leading edge covers, on my Combats. Never had any issues at all. My experience is also that the milled section for the skins doesn't interfere with k & g when waxing, or turning.

Re: New skis for Finnish Defence Forces

Looks like those new bindings are simply the older NATO military bindings with the leather straps replaced by the Voile-style side springs, with similar but more rugged heel clamps. That's good, as the old leather, or sometimes nylon, side straps would stretch and/or freeze up in certain conditions....

Re: How do you ski this spring snow???

60°F? Very warm slushy conditions? Clean your bases completely and use that Toko yellow, or Zardoz Notwax, which btw, works perfectly in warm wet snow. If you were touring and needed kick and glide options, I'd recommend a warm klister like Swix Red or Universal. Old dirty snow, and transitioning fr...

Re: Removing Kick Wax from Fabric?

I have a few suggestions: 1) Put the gear in a deep freezer, or a regular fridge freezer if you have the room, leave it overnight. Take it out and immediately scrape off what you can, with a cold scraper. The wax might even peel and flake off if you get can get it really cold. Repeat the procedure a...

Re: Help-a-Noob: 12sets skis for case Budweiser

No doubt about it, that is a bargain and a half. The Karhus are simply the XCD-GT ski with a partial metal edge. If they still have some camber, they would make nice trail skis. The Fischer 109s are stiff flexing on the hill tele skis, without a lot of sidecut and require aggressive technique for tu...

Re: Playing Around on old 215 cm Rossignols

Foam at the low end. New = softer, lots of chatter. Old = lose their spring completely. Not sure if anyone makes foam cores now. Maybe kids skis. I sold lots of tele skis in the 1980s and 90s; many of those foam core tele and nordic skis lost their camber fairly quickly, the alpine cambered skis go...

Re: Playing Around on old 215 cm Rossignols

Do they have an alpine camber? I hope so. They are single cambered but it is quite a bit more than an alpine ski IIRC, Rossi sold those with a promise of a "camber and a half" to accomodate both on the hill and backcountry skiing techniques. I imagine after 40 years the camber has softened into mor...
