Those are great photos! That's one heck of a loooong ski.
It's good for technique to practice on those suckers.
Rossi Randonees were state of the art about 1984 or 5, alongside Rossi TRS tele skis.
Purgatory is getting the snows this season! Wish I could find the time to get down there.

Re: Evolution Uinta skis
I never skied on Uintas, but have definitely skied in the Uintas. Lived in lovely (?) Vernal UT for a while working in the "earl bidnez". The Uinta range is due north, and not a very long drive. We did some nice tours, but had to really do some research to find good places to ski. Evolution skis wer...

Re: GPS/PLB, Mapping, and Navigation
[q Not entirely sure I am down with the idea of a "backcountry ski patrol". One that skis around patrolling the backcountry? The idea of skiing the backcountry is not to see people, and if you go out there and have a clue what you are doing you don't need any help unless you are hurt/sick. In Norwa...

Re: GPS/PLB, Mapping, and Navigation
When I'm out backcountry ski patrolling I carry a patrol provided SPOT-X unit and satellite phone, a cell phone loaded with maps, a patrol Motorola two way radio with about 12 channels, inc. our channels, several different law enforcement agencies, the USFS, MRA channels and local fire channels, plu...

Re: SuperLoop
Those superloops worked well enough, but are somewhat fragile and unreliable, as the cable tensioning mechanism, (those red plastic gears), is prone to breakage. I'd not want to rely on them for any extended period of time, i.e. a long backcountry tour or a vacation at a resort. If you buy a pair, I...

Re: 10th Mountain Division, 1943
Been in and out of Camp Hale many times, winter and summer. There is TMTA hut access thru there to the Jackal, FH and Vance's; and Camp Hale is a good ending trailhead for a tour starting at Vail Pass, or for heading south over Tennessee Pass, into the southern parts of the hut system west of Leadvi...

Re: Renting tele skis in Telluride?
You might call up the Telluride Nordic Center, in town, or the Adventure Center at Mtn Village, at least in recent memory a few XC/tele skiers were working those places, might have an idea for a rental/loaner.

Re: Renting tele skis in Telluride?
Sounds to me like you will have to go over to the dark side, and rent alpine gear. A heavy duty decision, fraught with moral imperatives, and frank discussion for an undergrad epistemology course. Or at least worthy of a couple of beers.
