Re: Leashes and ski brakes for 3-pins
Leashes are easy to make and use. There's nothing quite as frightening as watching a runaway ski rocketing down a slope filled with other skiers. Even a light tele ski can do considerable damage to a person.

Re: Leather Ski Boots & Light Telemark Boots
I used Garmont Excursions for quite a while, but even with custom insoles was never pleased with fit or the flex for touring. Support was certainly OK. The pair I had was the original boot and thick non-moldable liners, and very soft tongue on the shell. Lo and behold, when I upgraded from my old Ga...

Re: voile ultravector
I've been skiing this season and last on Icelantic Pioneer 96's with Voile Switchback X2's, and Scarpa T2Eco boots. Good setup for me; the skis turn well and are wonderful dealing with varied conditions. Nice up and down BC ski, too, especially with the X2's, but I think they're a bit heavier than t...

Re: Ski Review: 2018-2019 Åsnes Ingstad BC
Thanks for the review. Where did you buy your Combat Nato skis? Although I work just up the street ( literally less than one mile ) from Neptune Mountaineering, the only US distributor for Åsnes, it turns out that Neptune doesn't stock the Combat ski. In fact, the staff I spoke with said they're ne...

Re: Ski Review: 2018-2019 Åsnes Ingstad BC
I am primarily looking for a distance wax ski for optimal glide and turn-ability. I have Fischer E-88 that will take me most places and S-98 for turns in the woods. The skis I am looking for would be used in cold snow in both soft and consolidated conditions - no resort trails. I have older S-Bound...

Re: First Backcountry ski area in US
That ranch they're using is at a very low altitude for Colorado; I' think it will be a tough ski after a just a few days of heavy use. Imho, the folks that will be using this place are the same ones that expect to be able to use downhill resorts to go uphill, and for the ski patrol to keep them out ...

Re: Asnes USGI skis/bindings/boots
Those Intrepid Scout Military Skis appear to be Icelantic Nomads with a white top sheet and a bit more camber underfoot. If so, those are pretty nice BC skis--I ski on the Pioneer 96 with Voile Switchback X2's--for lifts and steeper bc skiing, with plastic tele boots... Don't know if it's exactly th...

Re: Asnes USGI skis/bindings/boots
I recommended the plastic boot to the OP, as he might require more stability than a leather boot in order to have good control. Personally I love the Alico ski march boots for most backcountry touring--I have two pair and a pair of the double boots; the SM boots remind me of the best of the older As...

Re: Asnes USGI skis/bindings/boots
Hello, This is also my first post. I do, however have some background with this equipment, as I worked for Paul Ramer at Alpine Research when we were producing ski equipment for the military, including those cable bindings, ending in about 1997. The Marine Corps and the Army were big customers--iirc...
