Re: Beware Canadian MilSur Skis!

That's really a shame. The Karhu skis are heavy and lack a nice camber for XC skiing. They turn OK, like the early 90's Karhus would do. Maybe some of you Canadians should pool your dollars and drive to Pennsylvania, buy a couple cases of skis from Colemans. Or...find a friend just on the US side of...

Re: Leather 75mm boots help. Alico Ski March or used Andrew (unknown model)? Edit: found model, it's an Andrew Claut

Just reading the description of the Klaut, it appears to be equivalent in construction overall to the Alico you already have, so the only difference would be in the fit, whatever that may be. It sounds to me that your Alicos are too short in length and too wide at the ankles. A longer pair would giv...

Re: Weird ski stuff for sale on eBay

Those velcro--closure Merrell boots were extremely popular for a couple of seasons, but the fad ended fairly quickly, as users found that the velcro iced up, making it hard to keep the boots closed, esp. for those skiers that wouldn't/didn't wear gaiters. Some skiers replaced the velcro with Voile s...

Re: What kind of wax is this?

That yellow Swix is for those folks that insisted on using hard waxes in really warm conditions. I never found it to work for me. Red is more useful as it covers the temps just a few degrees above freezing when the snow is still crusty or just warming over to wet, but not quite soggy. Removal of bot...

Re: Wooden skis.com

Wooden XC skis lose camber fairly quickly if not stored per the previous comments, i.e., wood block in the middle of base, with the tips together snugly, and tails, too. Old wood skis are frequently warped/twisted in addition to that if not stored properly. I've seen them twisted tip to tail...Worst...

Re: Thanksgiving

Turkeys are native to N. America, hence the popularity in the USA, although similar large birds exist on other continents. Maybe not as tasty? Here are a few Merriam's turkeys running and strutting around my house, from the game cameras. Noisy birds sometimes. Stellar's jays like to imitate the turk...

Re: Gear Basket

I would think the Norwegian welt construction is a much more durable sole, but heavier. How much heavier? Can't find stats for either pair, but fwiw, I owned a pair of the nw Alico doubles for a while, and they are considerably heavier than Excursions.

Re: Thinner duckbills

I ended up replacing a pair of old Snabb 79mm 3 pins on a pair of beautiful old Landsem wooden skis with a pair of Super Telemarks. Had to redrill, of course; btw some vintage 3 pin bindings have rear hole spacing wider than 75mm nordic norm and of course 75mm telemark nordic norm. No boots in 79mm ...
