Re: Swapping bindings - is it bad? is it hard?

If the hole patterns are the same, it is certainly ok to reuse the same holes for the new bindings instead of plugging and redrilling...in any case, measure twice, drill once. Like others have said, you may have to position the new binding so the new holes are at least 1cm from the old holes. Otherw...

Re: Forum name change?

We don't need a forum name change, just from now on all discussions should be posted in the "off-topic" area...or more folks could start some tele ski related posts and get us all back on track, so to speak, to genuflecting on snow.

210cm Karhu Military Skis $20 New No shipping

If anyone locally is interested, and by locally I mean Denver/Golden/Boulder Colorado USA metro area, I have a new old-stock pair of unmounted 210CM Karhu military skis that can be yours for $20. Big-ass skis for a big skier, or might be great runners for some kind of a towed sled. Or make a lawn ch...

Re: Groomed trails- is skate or classic better training for XCD?

I... Would you recommend classic race skis or skate skis to complement my MT51s, or is it important to get both? You can never have too many skis! Ask anyone on this forum!! Skate skis, boots and poles are in a world of their own, and very different from BC and touring. If you want to skate more th...

Re: Beware Canadian MilSur Skis!

So, I've skiied on those Karhus as we had a couple of pair when I worked at Alpine Research; I thought they turned nicely with leather teleboots on lift served terrain, although I used some Asolo Extreme Pluses, much stiffer than the Alico Ski March boots, fwiw. Even used them on a couple of overnig...

Re: Groomed trails- is skate or classic better training for XCD?

I think that's a very good question, and my answer is that it's all good as training for the backcountry, both classic and freestyle. I'd throw in some telemark turns, some parallel turns, here and there if you get a chance, and you're way ahead of the game. Don't over-think it, just ski. I've skate...

Re: Beware Canadian MilSur Skis!

That's really a shame. The Karhu skis are heavy and lack a nice camber for XC skiing. They turn OK, like the early 90's Karhus would do. Maybe some of you Canadians should pool your dollars and drive to Pennsylvania, buy a couple cases of skis from Colemans. Or...find a friend just on the US side of...

Re: Leather 75mm boots help. Alico Ski March or used Andrew (unknown model)? Edit: found model, it's an Andrew Claut

Just reading the description of the Klaut, it appears to be equivalent in construction overall to the Alico you already have, so the only difference would be in the fit, whatever that may be. It sounds to me that your Alicos are too short in length and too wide at the ankles. A longer pair would giv...

Re: Weird ski stuff for sale on eBay

Those velcro--closure Merrell boots were extremely popular for a couple of seasons, but the fad ended fairly quickly, as users found that the velcro iced up, making it hard to keep the boots closed, esp. for those skiers that wouldn't/didn't wear gaiters. Some skiers replaced the velcro with Voile s...
