Re: Alpina Pioneer 80 XPlore Ski Review

The simple waxless pattern is very efficient. The pattern length is much longer than on the Asnes WL line, offering better grip, especially for my 130lbs at 6'. Maybe that is also why I feel they go so fast! The Ingstad is obviously optimized for glide, while the Pioneer is optimized for grip. See ...

Re: Alpina Alaska XP XPlore Boot review

The moved back flex point is totally crux. The most important modification. 1- Yep, totally. And I was screaming "Genius!!!" all around when I first stepped on the boots and squeezed the soles. But one should ask himself, did we ever hear someone complain about the flex point before? Because as far...

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding System Review

This system wouldn't replace my T4s which I can use with my widest skis(112 uf). But surely there can be something that that skis tighter than a 3 pin or even a cable binding with leather boots on a ski around 70 or 80 underfoot. As far as cables go, why would you need them if you have stiff flexor...

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding System Review

With the addition of midsoles I don't see why the boot can't have enough flexibility for K&G and maintain enough stiffness to eliminate twisting. For me the boots upper would have to be stiff with a solid connection where the upper is attached to the sole, like a plastic boot. For me the weak link ...

I'm in. Where's the used market?
We keep our Asnes skis, and sell our other skis on the used market ;)

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding System Review

On the flip side, if the XPlore soles are similar enough to 75mm and NNN-BC that they can just be integrated into boots like the Alfa Guard an Alpina Alaska, then the system may not provide enough control because the boot is only attached at the far front, and not under the entire ball of the foot,...

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding System Review

That should work great, IF the soles actually transmit the power the skier exerts all the way to the front of the boots. Wait, are you insinuating that Rottefella, who has been making telemark binding for almost 100 years, would come out with a new product that is not right? A new binding that is "...

A friend forwarded this to me the other day. I count 3 different systems.

Telemark Super Hack!

His boots seem to have duck bills. I wonder if the boots got modified as well, to have holes for the pins in the sides of the duck bill.

Re: The new Rottefella XPLORE OFFTRACK Binding System Review

Disagree on your comment about NNN-BC. Lifting the heel, ball-of-foot must remain down to engage the rails between the binding and foot. That is the crux of the NNN-BC system. Lifting the heel and the entire boot off the rails so a skier is just suspended on the bar is not using the binding to its ...

Re: Åsnes Waxless Skis

Here's mine. 195cm Ingstad. Again, I'm 160lbs. The ski is short (I tend to like long skis) and the pattern length is still not great). I got a 205 Ingstad WAX and I'm much happier. The total pattern is 580mm long. It's OK but not great or anything to write home about. It's better than the 205cm MT5...
