Re: Non-rockered ski recommendations for resort and backcountry.
Part of whether Nansen or Combat NATO is faster for you depends on your weight. The Combat NATO is available in a stiffer flex, which for people weighing more than about 80kg can make a difference from keeping the ski from taking on a banana shape when going through soft snow. As for which of the tw...

Re: Can you actually climb with kick wax?
You can also stomp up some quite steep slopes on a good wax job. Stomping is the way to go. Kick wax works by grabbing some snow. If you are gliding and striding, the amount of snow your skis grab will (usually) be minimal. However, if you stomp up a hill, without gliding, you can build up half a s...

Re: Mid width fishscaled ski comparison.
Sounds like you are highly recommending the Ingstad and the Åsnes traction pattern. [/quote] Not quite. The Fischer traction pattern is much better than the Asnes pattern. However, the Rossignol skis I tried were much worse than the Asnes pattern, and the Alpina skis weren't any better than the Asn...

Re: Mid width fishscaled ski comparison.
I should have been more clear in my last post- I am not questioning the value of a scaled ski (I agree!)- I am just wondering what the snow depth and stability is like- Wondering whether you would be better with 62mm (eg Madshus 62; Fischer 78), or 68mm underfoot (eg Fischer 88). Although I general...

That looks like they might be using the Asnes Combat NATO BC, with Switchback bindings?blitzskier wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 12:47 pmwhat model ski are they using, seems it has a small skin insert on those?

Re: Brand new Fischer Excursion 88 for this year. Mount point? Cord center?
Intended terrain is ungroomed, woods roads, lower angle hiking trails, lower angle off-trail/forest skiing in Northeast USA (upstate NY, Vermont, NH, etc.). The idea is to use the setup for 'rugged touring' with the emphasis on touring but still with telemark turns where I can get 'em. Think Avalan...

Re: Current or Recently Retired Waxable Metal Edge Skis
@fisheater gamme is really faster than the mt51? That's surprising to me. @corlay please report back how the mr48 compares to gamme after some experiences, thanks. Wood core skis are variable. Different skis of the same model can come out differently, due to variations in the wood. It is very possi...

How can you be sure?
Can you think of any way to experimentally verify your hypothesis?

Re: Anyone really psyched about their Hok style skishoes?
Hoks, BD Glideright (sic), LLBean Boreals. Some deals on CL but I don't recall anyone here thinking they are the bees knees. Anyone get beyond "The are ok for what they are."? I really like my Hoks. They are not skis. They do things that would be utterly impractical with skis. I use my Hoks to skis...

Re: Short, waxable ski recommendation
I think the TN66's that I have are a bit long for me (I'm 155lbs and 5'8") at 200cm, but hey, they were free. So I might be a bit biased about their lack of turning ability especially coming from five seasons of skiing SBound 98's and Asnes Kongsvolds ( which I've only ever skied twice). What do yo...
