Re: Crusty
Kind of going off on a different tangent here, but I'm now having a fit of nostalgia. I remember my uncle gifting me some old, but pristine Fischer skis after I had complained about how blown out the rental skis were at the local resort. Those Fischers were clean, silver, with very little side cut, ...

Re: wide waxless skis
Somehow, despite pouring over this forum, I've never heard of this ski before. Thanks for the tip! I'm particularly intrigued by any ski in this category that I could drive with leathers on occasion, if only for the increased K&G performance. I hadn't seen anything on them either, but other SumitCo...

Crusty
For the last week or so we've had breakable crust in my area. Its mostly consolidating now, so its becoming a non-issue. I'm guessing that skiing breakable crust is always going to be a fairly miserable experience, but I'm wondering if anyone has a ski that makes it a little less terrible. My though...

Re: wide waxless skis
I purchased a pair of SummitCone Vagabonds about a month ago. They are 97mm underfoot and I ski them with an extreme class leather boot on Rottefella super teles with cable (I don't use the cable, or hardwire actually, all that much). They are probably more suitable for use with a plastic boot, but ...

Re: XCd recommendations: MN
I've skied the 78s all season and my ski buddy was on 88s. We broke a lot of trail with these skis and IMO they break trail pretty much just as well as any similar sized skis. In other words, I don't think they are noticably poor at breaking trail due to the NR. I also think that for bc-xc skis, th...

Re: XCd recommendations: MN
I've skied the Fischer E 88s all this season and, while the traction pattern is probably great for pulling a sled, the Nordic rocker makes them less than ideal for breaking trail. The NR is nice when going downhill so that they plane up on the snow, but considering how poorly they turn its a bit par...

Re: The Finest Leathers: Nordic Norm 75mm Backcountry/Telemark Boots
I don't know how those boots compare to my first "telemark" boot the Merril Ultra, but when I switched to them from xc boots my first impression was that they were untourable. They broke in and I got used to them and now they are the lightest boot I own for bc skiing. At only a few ounces lighter t...
