Re: Ultimate corn xcD for NNNBC

I had a lot of fun on my Vagabonds, but a wider ski makes edge control more difficult. I took my Fischer Excursion 88s out last week and actually though they were more fun in some ways. Being able to turn around and see that single line carved in the snow makes me feel really good for some reason. I...

Re: Help me choose a first Nordic ski!

Help me choose a first Nordic ski! I just got back from a 100km trek in the California Sierra Nevada, about 50% on snow. If this is the context that you're looking to address with a new ski I would think that you'd be needing a comfortable boot to hike in (taking T4s out of consideration) and skis ...

Re: Help me choose a first Nordic ski!

If you're not totally settled on waxless or even if you are, skins can be used to great effect with just about any nordic bc ski. They climb better than scales for the most part and you can leave them on during the descent to help manage speed. I'd offer ski advice, but I'm sure someone more experie...

Re: Crusty

I could be totally wrong on this, but I think the only time rocker wouldn't improve turning on an otherwise stiff nordic ski, would be on boiler plate or very hard icy crust. If there's anything soft to carve into on top, then the rocker should improve turning. Again, I could be wrong I've only had ...

Re: Alpina Alaska XP XPlore Boot review

How are the boots for hiking? I have an interest in using light gear for consistent predictable spring/ summer conditions. I would be more inclined to get out when hiking to get to the snow is involved if I had a good boot for it. It seems like they would be better than boots with a duck bill or NN...

Re: Alpina 1600 BC

BTW- those boots do have a waterproof liner- the "Alpitex" label on the boot confirms it. "Alpitex" is Alpina's own waterproof-breathable liner. It is excellent. I certainly think it is as good as GTX- at least it is in a boot liner. Gareth Good to know. I had thought that was their brand label for...

Re: Fischer E-109 vs Excursion 88 vs Traverse 78 vs E99 Crown

Just wanted to post a quick picture of the rocker on my 88s to see how it compares to others. It does seem pretty significant, but that's just my subjective opinion.

Re: Alpina 1600 BC

After a full season of use I can say these boots were pretty good. 20210506_122237.jpg They could use better insoles, and I'm still not really sold on the PU coating that Alpina applied to the outside. It does work to keep the leather more dry, but it also limits the effectiveness of waterproofing t...
