Re: warm in Norway

Tad warm this year in Norway, all these pics are from day off, a rest day at midpoint cabin, the rest was white-out or for or blizzard, but still great fun. The old tracks are our pulk tracks from previous day (night actually, arrived 1.5hrs after sun had set). Skied up our old tracks to the pass a...

Re: Can you actually climb with kick wax?

Trying to get some clear answers on this. Is it at all possible to climb steeply on xc skis and wax? I am familiar with lilcliffy's and Pinnah's method of waxing for touring (Polar on whole ski and kick wax of the day in pocket or extended if needed) and yet I still start sliding backwards on essen...

Re: Can you actually climb with kick wax?

- Follow up IMG_01.jpg IMG_02.jpg IMG_03.jpg IMG_04.jpg I was too eager to test the grip tape, so I borrowed an old pair of skis from a neighbor. Same length as the TAOs, nothing scientific, the tape covers roughly the same surface (first picture). The weather was a sunny -3°C. Second picture, 17-d...

Re: Non-rockered ski recommendations for resort and backcountry.

Hum, I am a bit puzzled... You are looking for non-rockered skis, and the ones you are looking into are rockered... No big deal; non-rockered is hard to come by... And finding a ski that tracks well and turns well (groomer) is somewhat a challenge... One way to find one is to look for a narrow dedi...

Re: Helping each other find Boots

Size 11, moderately wide feet (between regular and wide width), high arches (I need orthotic insoles).

I like Alfa boots. Currently skiing the Kikut Perform in EU size 45. It has plenty of room in the toe box, yet still fits snug around the ankle.

Re: Rex Grip Tape

Hi, just getting set up on some Asnes Amundsen BCs (still waiting on the Alfa Kikut boots, coming from Varuste), and have decided to go with Start Grip Tape (at least to start, especially with temps warming up) after being out of waxing since early 00's. I'll be using these for in-, out-of track an...

Re: Non-rockered ski recommendations for resort and backcountry.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I decided to order some Combat NATOs. Hopefully they will get tested soon.

Re: Rex Grip Tape

I haven't tested grip tape in deep snow in the backcountry yet, but I have been testing it on my Fischer Powerlight track skis. I have used it on groomed tracks and on very hard, icy snow off-trail. In general, I think the stuff is quite good. It truly does seem to grip and glide in all conditions, ...

Re: Non-rockered ski recommendations for resort and backcountry.

You've both given me some really good information. Luckily I am in the weight range where I can use either ski. It sounds like the NATO is probably better for cross country skiing, particularly in deep snow, while the Nansen is probably better for downhill, but that both skis should work for both pu...

Non-rockered ski recommendations for resort and backcountry.

Hi Everyone. I'm looking for advice on a new pair of skis. I currently ski the Fischer Traverse 78. It's a fantastic ski for most situations I encounter, and pure magic on spring corn snow. However, I find that it performs poorly in breakable crust, probably due to the rockered tip. Unfortunately, b...
