Re: Can you actually climb with kick wax?
The addition this year of a simple mercury thermometer hanging on my backpack and a digital snow thermometer has established firm data points making it easier to unlock the mysteries of ski wax. Honestly the much cheaper mercury thermometer is all that's needed. The snow thermometer adds more info, ...

Re: Can you actually climb with kick wax?
Drifting off topic, but I'm hoping the Nordic rocker craze has reached it's zenith and we will see more redesigns that tone it down. Just last year I picked up some fishscaled TN66's and the rocker is very pronounced. I compared them to my Åsnes Gammes and it is quite a bit more on the Fischers. Thi...

Re: Åsnes Rabb….nylon skin or klister?
I'll chime in on a couple of points, but I don't have experience with climbs as step as you mention. 1. I have the SB98 (similar to he M68) and have skied laps on my M62 wax base ski with nylon Transition skins. The scales on the 98 glide way better than the skin. I also don't like the feel of tryin...

Re: Can you actually climb with kick wax?
I agree with TM, if I'm doing laps I like a shallower up track out of the way, definitely don't want to mark up the sweet bits. May as well make the up enjoyable and not a total grind.

Re: Can you actually climb with kick wax?
I think there is a vast difference in the climbing ability of waxed Nordic track skis and less cambered and likely wider backcountry skis. As mentioned above technique is very important with double cambered skis. You can get away with sloppier technique on less cambered skis. You can also stomp up s...

Re: Can you actually climb with kick wax?
I would say when it is right, the combination of grip and glide with wax is the best. It is a complicated art and you will achieve varying degrees of success. Much trial and error, at least for me. Consistent cold temps are the easiest situation to achieve great results. We have had a cold snap with...

Re: How to maintain skis (s bound 98)
What about edge sharpening? I tried to sharpen the base edge of my Rossi BC100 (fishscales similar to Fischer's) to 0.5 degrees with a Kunzmann kombi tool and I was taking more material off the fishscales than doing any good to the base edges...  Sharpening the side edge (89 degrees) w...

Re: How to maintain skis (s bound 98)
I use F4 Universal (solid, rubbed-on) in the pattern base area of the ski, and Polar on the sintered tip/tail. Fisher Traverse 78 Works well for me. How is the solid wax to work with? How do you apply it? I'm guessing it's more economical. I've used the Swix North paste wax, but didn't like working...
