Re: XCD to Skate Ski - Help!

Several years ago now I did a Worldloppet season in Europe, and started off on Atomic Worldcup skating skis. These were superlight, but the tails especially were too soft so control and glide were poor at times. When we were in Lahti I bought a slightly shorter pair of Fischer skis (50% off due to t...

Re: Comparing sizes between Scarpa and Garmont

The two brands use rather differently shaped lasts. IMHO there aren't really any equivalent sizes. FWIW and IME: I've had 28.0 Scarpa T2Xs & T4s but these caused problems with my right big toe going numb; 28.5, the next size up uses a bigger shell, and there's then too much volume everywhere. NB: Do...

Re: Mid width fishscaled ski comparison.

FWIW, I've had success with both the Fischer and Voile patterns in all conditions except ice (where skins are essential), and dry powder - which basically doesn't exist here, so I can't really comment on that. The rest of the time all is good..

Re: 3 Pin vs. Rotte Xplore

Maybe Solomon will come out with a new binding? Many people will adopt it, Solomon will then discontinue it. Tell me about it! I have numerous Pilot bindings and need new combi boots. Swapping lots of skis to NNN and buying two or three pairs of new boots does not appeal. I also have the now-extinc...

Re: Mid width fishscaled ski comparison.

Hopefully Åsnes have dramatically overhauled their pattern bases sometime in the last few years, because in the past they've been basically worthless IME - no grip on transition or wet snow. The best one could hope for was to *maybe* have enough traction to get along on the flat. Climbing - not poss...

I get not liking alpine grips @satanas I’m used to alpine grips
My background is from XC skiing, not alpine, hence the grip preference.

Re: Poles for XCd, D, and Telemark

IME the Traverse poles seemed (at least in the past) to use a more easily bent alloy than BD's more upmarket poles; sadly nothing is perfect. (I also dislike Alpine grips.)

Re: Excursion Boot Modifications ?

FWIW: I hated the T2X (too heavy, stiff and restrictive) and tried to soften the forward flex by fitting an Excursion tongue; it sorta worked but I still didn't get on with the boots. Then I tried fitting a taller, stiffer tongue and a rear spolier to the Excursion, but doing this did nothing to fix...

Re: Poles for XCd, D, and Telemark

I think you want the Leki guide light 2 carbon. It’s the only widely adjustable pole with a good directional basket I’ve seen. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I've been looking for something like this for ages. Now to see if I can find some locally here in Oz, or with tolerable shipping f...

Re: 2025 Fischer traverse 78

FWIW, I'd be more worried about being near the top end of the weight range and having the skis be too soft to hold an edge. I'm ~65kg and have the SB 112 in 179 and shorter would be too soft IMHO.
