Re: Xplore - now SkateX

I hope this comes to touring level where boot lugs will still make it feasible to walk.
Reminds me of old splitboard hardware where the pin / pivot was much more underfoot and it made for a very natural rocking flex.

Asnes X Skin - mohair

Selling a pair of used kicker skins. Don't have the little storage bag.
They have seen decent miles but still work fine. The glue is good enough, but would benefit from re-touching soon.

Re: Brooks Range Alaska - Winter Classic Trip report

I wonder if the new xplore binding has solved the issue with icing up. Also wondering what options there are for super warm non-plastic boots that have good support for downhill turns. Xplore is likely an improvement over NNN BC, but that's not saying much. The thing that most concerns me is that s...

Re: Brooks Range Alaska - Winter Classic Trip report

It looked like one person in your group was using NNN BC, which I know are typically not advised by the people into the Winter Classics events. How did his boots seem to do versus the AT toe piece approach? Yes, John was using the Alfa polar boots with intuition liners. The good is his feet were wa...

Re: Brooks Range Alaska - Winter Classic Trip report

Yep, Just toes pieces on BC55's. The heals are simple plates with a wire riser.
Locking the boot cuff is enough to survive most things.

Re: Spend my money!

Why set on scales?

Kicker skins give the same benefits and are way faster on the down and gliding.

BD Helio 76's or 88's?
The Objectives are nice too.

Re: Alaska Winter Wilderness Classic

For gear. Just about everyone uses Madschus BC55's or 50's. Also the majority use tech toe pieces and a heal block or short riser. Some use 3 pin.. and people that like their boots frozen to their skis and having to fix broken stuff use nnn BC. Boots - Frakenboots used to be more common but with Ski...

Re: "The Bleeding Edge" of boot progress...

Cool.. I frankenbooted a pair of Scarpa F3's to have more toe volume and flex - mostly volume for cold... I would not recommend trying this again and would have done a bunch of things differently but it evolved this way. Cut out the entire front and added a bridge to give the entire shell more width...
