Based on how much adj. coil was broken off inside the heel tube, were you able to re-thread the rest of the adj coil into the tube and use it with your boots?

Those tubes generally spin pretty freely in the heel tube. 22Designs refers to them as "adjustment coils" A quick fix is to completely unthread the side that isn't broken. Then insert a small bladed screwdriver (3-4mm wide) against the inner-wall of the adjustment coil that is still in the heel tube...
